Looks like the Original Classic #1 handle that's had oil rubbed into it or other models stripped of red paint then oil rubbed.

that might very well be it. on another forum, a poster suggested an incandescent bulb can make oiled birch look orange as well.

what i really want is an orange or blue-handled 510. blue is really growing on me as well since it sticks out of the woods in any season. here in the fall even an orange-handled knife can disappear.

heck, a few weeks ago i couldn't find my h&b shawnee tomahawk for a few minutes after hammering tarp pegs down and setting it down just a foot or two away even though the sheath had an orange tape on it...the ground was thick with orange and yellow leaves.

Look for an Eriksson 545. They were in blue and the handle looks to be from the very same mold. Also Hultafors makes the knife in blue.

Buy the blade you like and have a maker here rehandle it in blue G10?

cost prohibitive. ideally, i'd like several to stash and several to give away to friends as well.

thanks!

Why not sand and paint it?

with my ocd i'd probably try out all the available orange and blue shades in the store to see which i like. i tend to go overboard with these things once i get my diy mood going and next thing i know i'll have a whole leather sheath making setup just for 1-2 of them...it happened with kydex and 1 machete...now about a dozen of them have kydex.

Couple of far fetched guesses:

1. It could be some more rare run made by Mora for some other brand.
2. Could it be Mora neverlost edition with perhaps guard removed? That could be another way to mod yourself this kind of knife.

it'd be nice if it's a rare run especially if it has mors' input on it. i like my classic #2 because of the fat handle but wish the blade was around 3.5" or so instead of 4.20".

I think it is just fine as is. Maybe sand the handle and do whatever but the simple nature and cost of the Mora # 2 is what makes the knife so good.. Also remember that just because Mors Kochanski or anyone else does something doesn't mean you also need to do it.

This showed up on YouTube the other day. In it (around 4:50) Mors mentions that the orange handled Mora was Swedish army issue and was 'neither too big or too small'.

thanks!
