Mortising axe? Or what?

What do you guys think this is?

My first thought was a cut devil but the cutting edge is rather thin for that. Maybe a mortising axe? But it looks like it's made to be struck with a sledge not swung like an axe. It has an oval (sledge) eye not an axe eye. And a mortising axe should have a straight rather than curved bit. Puzzling.......

Looks like some type of chisel (maybe with the corners ground off?)

Yeah I was going to say it looks like a massive hot cutter.

That hot chisel is a pretty good match. Looks like someone tried to turn it into an axe.
