Does anyone mortise their handles? I'm looking for the best way to do a 3/16" x 1"x4" square hole for a handle?

Thanks,

Mike

Michael, if you're talking about a hidden tang handle, I just drill a couple holes with a drill bit a tad smaller than the thickness of the steel, and waller them out until the tang fits snugly. I have tried the version where you get it close and then heat the tang up and burn fit it into the handle, but I don't do that anymore. With a 1" wide tang, you'll just have to drill three or maybe four holes.
Of course, if you have or have access to a mortising attachment, give it a try and let us know how it worked. Sounds like an interesting idea! Take care! Michael
