Hello, folks

My friend bladesmith Gustavo Vilar (not related to Ricardo Vilar), from Vila Velha, ES, has just sent me this pic of one of his last creations, a bowie with an 11" long mosaic damascus blade, maple handle and stainless fittings. He is very young and getting better and better at the craft.
Hope you like the pic.

CRAP! How will he get better? Anyway- what does Vilar mean? Really really good knifemaker???

Ivan, Gustavo is a very talented knifemaker. Just how young is he? I take it the mosaic damascus is of his own making.

Hello, Keith

I think he is 25 or 26 years old and yes, its his own mosaic damascus. He also does engraving, scrimshaw and also some carving.

Keith - he's got a page here: http://www.brazilianbladesmiths.com.br/

I'm not sure if he has a personal website or not.

Let me add that I own a few of his knives and his work is absolutely first rate. His integrals are exceptionally well balanced, clean and symmetric, and his damascus is getting very nice too.

Thanks for your comments, gentlemen. I´ll e-mail Gustavo with this thread´s adress.
Adam, I am still wondering how you were able to go through the 2x4 in 6 seconds. Was that a "chainsaw" damascus blade??? :D :D :D
keith, I have just e-mailed you.
