I love the Damascus look and feel and appreciate the time and effort used in the creation of these peices (though not as much as possible since I've never made any) but I just dont like Mosaic Damascus. Al these little animals and what not strewn across a blade just is not attractive to me. Looking around Blade Gallery I see some beautifully made knives except the mosaic Damascus detracts from the whole look.

Caden,

I'm with you on this one. I do greatly appreciate the technology and skill that goes into making mosaic damascus, just don't like the look of it, especially when it has "animals" or other objects showing in it. Just not my thing. I really prefer random damascus over just about any other type of pattern. Guess it brings back the mystique of true hand forged damascus, you never know exactly what you're gong to get and each piece is a unique creation with it's own personality.

Again, not demeaning or dismissing the skill, talent, and technology that goes into mosaic damascus, just haven't seen any that I like.

I think the diffenerence in the skill of the maker is a huge part of it. I have seen little random mosaic patterns and I have seen amazing scenes depicting horses running down a blade, each horse slightly different. Compared to a bunch of simpistics horses wafered off and reweleded the effect is not at all the same. I think the most basic mosaics can look good if done well, but the more complex pieces that dont seem to have a "quilted look" can be down right amazing. I saw a dammascus recently that was thousands of little leaves in the blade, I assume some mosaic techniques were used to prduce this, but it doesnt look anything like regular mosiac.

Yeah there are some Mosaics that look great but most of what I've seen (IMO) could do with out the Damascus at all. I'm not knocking anyone who uses MD and I admire those who make it. But sometimes you just over do it, or its unbalanced
