Wait, I uderstand the terminology! I would like to know how to best bring out the apearance of mosaic pins!
I find that no matter how I sand, polish or grind them, I'm not happy with the finish! All the little tubes, rods and extrusions that make up the inside of the pin have little burrs that blurr from one to the next! I hope that explanation is clear!

I bought several different pins in various materials from several dealers at the Blade Show. I find I have pretty much the same problem with all of them!
Thanks in advance!

Neil, I also have that same problems at times, but not consistently. I think the problem is minimized by sanding with ever finer papers, so that a minimum of buffing is required to finish. I did notice that once the problem appears, getting rid of it is real tough. If you figure it out, I'd love to know. Just when I think it's gone, poof it's back!

Are you dishing out the epoxy? Since it is softer it will sand out first. Use something small hard and flat. Sometimes I put a drop of superglue on the pin to fill the cavities back up.

Get a small piece of flat wood, about the size of a small file and glue a piece of sand paper on it. Do this on a number of rods in ever finer grit. When you use these sanding rods to finish the handle there is usually less of a problem of one material being worn down faster than the other.
I've used this for making handles with spacers, ivory, ebony and Water buffalo and these things make it possible to get completely smooth transitions. I would think that it would work equally well for the pins...
If not...Well, it was worth a shot

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I have a Tanto Neck Knife and a Small Hunter both with Koa wood and Mosaic pins. So far I have more time in farting around with the pins than I have in the knives

My latest thoughts are to sand the pins flush, buff the epoxy filler down, slightly exposing the pins, then sand with 600 using micarta as a hard backing. THEN.... fill in with crazy glue and lightly sand and buff again!!
At this rate I'll have to charge 50 bucks a piece for the mosaic pins just to break even

This is something that will HAVE to improve with practice!!!
FUN FUN FUN!!!!
