mosaic pin question

I think I have a 17/64th but I cant remember. Just get one size larger than 1/4"

Use a "F" drill bit. It is .257" diameter.
Lately I have been polishing the pins before I install them so you could use a 1/4" drill bit.

I use a 1/4" bit, then polish the pins slightly and use a tiny bit of sandpaper rolled around a smaller drill bit to polish the insides of the holes. Give me a nice feeling pressure fit without any binding and no gaps whatsoever. if i am using burl, I leave myself more room, as it has a tendency to crack when lateral pressure is applied from the pin forcing through.

:) All the methods you guys use to install the pins works great, one thing you want to check after you finish the handle is make sure you havent heated up the pin and loosened the glue inside. Just take a rod and put a little pressure on the inside parts of the pin and make sure they dont move, if they do just put some super glue on them and it will fix it. Also try not to heat them up when finishing the handle, which is hard to do as brass and copper conduct heat very fast.

Some woods - even stabilized - seem to close up a bit after drilling. If you find the F-bit hole a little tight, try a 6.6mm. Just a smillionth extra and looks nice and tight. F is my normal choice.

I used to chuck up a 22 cal barrel cleaning tip - put a small piece of sandpaper where the swab would go and spin it till it fit just right. It worked - but the F bit is easier.

Rob!
