After a few mosiac pin making adventures, thought I would look into buying some ready made. If anyone has a good source or two I would sure appreciate being directed there. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Terry

I seriously considered buying some mosaic pin stock while I was at Blade in Atlanta. I wish I had now. I have some stock to make simple pins but I get that dang epoxy everywhere just putting scales on knives! (Now how did epoxy get THERE!!!):D I can only imagine what kind of mess I'd make putting mosaic pins together but I guess I will soon just for the experience.

Terry, one of those inexpensive hand operated vacuum pumps, like you can get at the auto parts store, and some rubber tubing, make it a lot easier to get the epoxy up the tubes. Don't use your mouth, epoxy fumes are carcinogenic.

Thanks again guys, I have put a baloon over the end of the tubes and sucked till I thought my eye lids were caving in. Best luck was by coating each piece and sliding them together. It does make one hell of a mess, but the end result was OK. I just haven't used any real small material doing it and would eventually like to. Pretty labor intensive for a little tiny piece of a knife. It does add character. Thanks again, appreciate the input and info. Terry

After some bad experiences, I found the best way (for me)
I plug a small rubber tube to the end of the pins and plug the
other end on a big syringe...

You can mix acetone with epoxy to thin them, but the epoxy will
be more like rubber (more soft), I prefer to use a air dryer to eat
the epoxy and she become verry liquide...

This technic work pretty well for me..

I get most of my supplies from McMaster-Carr and Grizzly had some also in thier catalog. I get the glue in the tube with a vacuum pump. I have different size plastic tubing to fit over the pins and attach it to the pump with a barb fitting and quick connect.

Thanks fellas, guess I will keep making my own. It is a pleasant diversion and you get to spend hours peeling the leftovers off your fingers :D

You might want to get a box of surgical latex gloves. They sell them in wood refinishing stores, and some hardware stores. They are very inexpensive, and you get a lot.
Or you could go into a hospital room, act like you're working there, and bag a bunch out of the wall dispenser they have in every room.;)

Nice job with the avitar, big guy!

How you coming with those shop benches?

Have Linda take some pics of you suckin' on the end of those tubes- sure would liven up the forums!

If you look in the very back of the Grizzly catalog, they carry quite a selection of round and square tubing and pin stock if you are interested in making your own.
