Hope somebody can help ! I just picked up a used pump shotgun ,Mossberg 500C 18" barrel in 20 gauge. I can't get more than two shells in it. Is that how much it holds? Please help before I call the dealer.Thanks.

This is going to get moved to gadgets and gear....
but you have a capacity plug in your magazine tube....it is easy to remove, but I can't remember how....you can download the instructions from mossberg's website.

apparently the capacity plug can be shaken out when the barrel is removed and you shake it with the shotgun facing downwards

Thanks for your replies. I jus did it. I googled and got an answer. Just in case, all you have to do is unscrew the barrel and pull the wooden plug out as it sticks out.

Hold onto the plug. In the event that the shotgun is used for hunting, many shotgun rules require the plug to be in place. Even if you never hunt, if you sell the gun, the next person may.

i wouldnt think he would do much bird hunting w/a 18" bbl shotgun, not legally in TX anyway.

why do they even put plugs in riot guns lol??

Some people do use riot guns for deer hunting. Connecticut, for example, requires shotgun use. I use a rifled slug gun, but if I was going to use a smoothebore with rifled slugs, I would probably use a riot gun- many of them have rifle or ghost ring sight options and cylinder chokes that could be conducive to to rifled slug shooting. We also have a mag cap limit (same as that for migratory bird hunting). There is a couple jurisdictions that require buckshot useage- I would probably use a riot gun for deer if I was forced to use buck shot for hunting- no doubt about it.

I have actually heard of people shooting respectable trap scores with riot guns. It is probably a challenge, but some people probably do hunt with them.

I've got a buddy who hunts birds with his 500 riot gun. He does okay with it. He mainly uses it because its what he's got and doesn't bird hunt enough to justify (to his wife not himself!) buying a new shotgun.

Change the barrel maybe? You can change a Mossberg barrel faster than you could explain it...

An unsharpened #2 pencil works just as well.
