Hello Lt632ret Or Other Knowledgable Persons;
I Was Directed To You By Another Member Who Holds Your Knowledge Of Schrade Switchblades As The Best. I Posted Up On Another Forum, Looking For Info About My Switchblade. It Is A Geo.schrade/cut.co/walden N.y. On Reverse Tang It Has Nos Pats/dec.21,09/sept.13.10/june 6,16. It Is A Red Yellow Caramel Celluloid With Long Top Swedged Clip Blade. My Question Is Regarding Dating It, The 1909 Patent Year Should Give Some Indicator I Think. Is It A Flylock Or A Presto Mechanism.
I Have Never Posted Here Before, So If I Lose My Photos I Will Try Again Tomorrow.

Ps I Just Scanned And Found I Am Not Allowed To Post Attachments ,probably Due To New Member Status. I Think The Narrative Says It All Though.
Thank You

DUHH who was the other who obviously mislead you into believing that I know anything. I see I am still baffling them with Bull ---- Oh well lets see I wove old switchblades.

First of all it cannot say George Schrade Walden NY. The Pat dates eliminate it being a Presto. The pat date is a Schrade Cut Co. ( ie Walden NY ).

You do not state the size of the body of the handle with that type of cell handle and if it only has one blade it should be a 3,3/4" . You do not state what kind of mechanism opens it a fly lock has an elongated round ended piece which is pushed forward to release the blade prestos and Schrades have a round button which is pressed most with a slide lock below the button. ( a very few early ones did not they are very rare ). The press button knife company ( of which Geo Schrade was affialiated with prior to starting Schrade Cut Co. with his brothers in 04 ). Has it in the bolster

From what you have said it sounds the least like a Flylock or a presto. What made you deduce that??? Your knife could also be a 3,3/8" ( sized handle ) they made these in single blade however in most cases when you find these they are actually automatic letter openers that have had the straight letter opener part cut off. Leaving a 3,3/8" single bladed knife, since the 3,3/8 are rarer than the letter openers they are sometimes passed off as the rare 3,3/8 if that is the case you should be able to see some traces of where it was cut and or filed on the bottom end.

So some of the information you have related seems to conflict with itself, Your deductions of who made it seems off and you did not send the needed information to give you a definite answer. In this case to be sure a picture is definitely needed in order to tell you exactly what you have.

However your question was when was it made? I believe It was made after June of 1916 and before 1946. I believe it to be a Schrade Cut Co. I believe if measured it will be either 3,3/8" but more likely 3,3/4".( just the handle ) I do not believe it has Geo Schrade on it. I am attaching a pic of what I believe a two similar knives.

All this being said the can all be cleared up with a picture and what is actually on the tang. I hope this helps let us know. LT PS this vintage patent date is also found on large folding hunters and while they also were made in cell I do not know of them being made in the version of cell you describe. PPS You knife could also be a fishtail or bow tie if so then the time frame is the same. however I have included a picture of this style as well.

Aw heck all that babbling and it was the one on the cover of my book DUHHH. Page 89. LT PS you know Presto did make almost exactly the same knife however your dates make it a Schrade Cut. Which by the way is more valuable to collectors.

Here I was bothering mossdancer to get me a picture and all I had to do was ask El Lobo... Dang. Anyways I had sent the mossdancers knife pictures to LT inbetween his postings. He was right on with the fishtail. (and I guessed right too :D )

To All;
It would seem that I mistook a blemish for a geo. , what can I say old eyes can play tricks. Irv I got a message from my computer that the files I sent you were vacant. the cell handle itself is 3" long the knife closed is 4"
open its 7 1/4". didn't mean to confuse, sometimes my mind thinks of other things, when I am doing something else.
Again thankyou all very much.

PS you peaked my curiosity as to what it might be worth. I think if there is a switchblade museum it belongs in it.

The one in my book is rated EX/5+ ( which is my grading system ) that is out of a possible Mint/ 6. The value RETAIL for the one in my book is 300 to 385 I list a mint one as being worth 500. Now again that is retail and that was priced in 2001. There are several factors that come into play and I do not know what condition yours is in it dosen't take much in condition to vary price a lot. Also the economy right now is not the greatest. However these have held there value pretty well, the candy Schrade is quite sought after. I do not pay retail I cannot however unlike some folks I do, when asked explain my opinion of the retail value and if the seller is interested I tell them what I would offer. There are a couple of sites which sell these and ebay which announced it will not sell automatics is still selling them. Usually if it is not a run of the mill knife and a big collector wants it, some of them notify Ebay that it is illegal and when it is pulled try to cut a private deal. They are dirt bags and I try not to have contact with them I do however feel that I do know some of them. In any event you never know with ebay, or as I always say about ebay often the gold brings junk ( money ) and the junk brings gold (big money). Let me know if this helps or if you need further info. Good luck LT

Thank you , you have given me more info than I could have imagined. I figure
I will keep it till I tire of seeing it and then, who knows probably get sold by a
grand or great grandchild at a garage sale. I will tell them the approx. worth
but info is only as good as it is used.
Hey thanks again. Hopefully, will speak again sometime.

You never know what will happen with these the one in my book was found when a fellow pulled out his antique washer to replace it when he bought an old trailer up in the mountains. He swapped it to a friend of mine for a box of ammo and a regular pocket knife. I bought it from my friends widow when he died. She didn't want to take any money for it but, I left it anyway. I paid more than retail for the one I have but, it was a good excuse to leave a few dollars on the table. Thanks for stopping by. LT

mossdancer sent me 3 good pictures of the knife in question and 1 new unknown knife. When I get a face shot of the new one I'll post them as well.
Here are the 3 picts I got tonight.

You dont need to post the extra knife, its a KA-BAR folding hunter or English Jack, the pattern depends on I do not know what. I just thought you might enjoy seeing it. rather unusual back spring release.

I have a couple of copies in hard cover first edition and some second soft cover editions. however usually there are a couple of dealers selling new copies on ebay, Paladin Press any book store knife world sells them. The guys on ebay discount them five bucks. The CD has color pics. It is a virtual museum tour not the same as the book. Try looking up ( via google or Yahoo) the Aka SWITCHBlade news letter ( from Phoenix not Cal ) you might enjoy there website and magazine I write for them regularly.

My book I do not believe would help you however I might be able to, send some pics ( since you cannot post and it is a hassle ) my email is lt632ret@frontiernet.net ( all small characters and the first letter is a small L not the numeral one. LT
