A friend of mine whom I've converted into a knife carrier (a well used BM550) is interested in purchasing a knife with CF scales. He has good taste, but lacks the cash to back it up :D

So who offers an affordable CF folder out there? Last we talked, he was looking to spend less than $70. Is this too low of a price point?

The CF M16's sound like they might fit the bill nicely. I have two of the smaller versions in the spear point.

So light and easy to sharpen as compared to any of my ATS 34 or 154cm blades.

I took the clip off one of mine though. I find that the clip was too tight and the CF was so textured that it just wasted the pockets on my pants.

He will enjoy that knife, especially as a starter knife. The large Carson flipper enabled version opens like lightning, so that there is less chance of getting snagged with a nasty thumb cut.

Have to say, though, that it's appearance is that of a poor man's carbon fiber, due to the visual appearance and finishing characteristics. Unfair to compare it to custom carbon fiber scales I have seen, or well done production ones, such as the MT LCC.

Still, you can't beat the price and the feel of that heavy blade swinging from a relatively light handle.

A Gerber SL 3.25. It's got all the high end stuff except the price. Carbon Fiber scales, ATS-34 3.25" blade and reversable pocket clip. The liner lock seems a little lightweight, but for what most folks use em for, it should be strong enough. He paid around $60.00. I really had a hard time not buying one as it looks like so much knife for the money. I knew that with all my other stuff I'd never carry it, and I couldn't think of anyone that needed a gift knife at that level so I passed on it, but he seems quite happy.

He's carried a Spydie for years and only gets a new knife when he loses his old one. Until recently that is. He was asking about what to replace his worn (but not lost ) Spydie with and I pointed him at Benchmade. He bought a 940 in black and it's his EDC now. I thought he was done for a while, but then he recently asked if I wanted to visit a knife store. That's where he bought the Gerber. I think we might have another knife knut in the making.

For reference purposes, there is also a Gerber SLG 3.25 which has the same blade, but G10 handles instead of Carbon. Both plain and hald serrated blades are available on either knife.

All he has to do is get some of this and stick it to his favorite folder. Voila, carbon fiber scales. :D :D :D
