was going to start a poll but, I digress....

I'm going to be making up some sheaths to fit a knife that I'm making in bulk..

What is the most common fire steel size that you use, or would like to see attached to a leather and or kydex sheath..

I need to know so I can order a bulk of the steels..

1/4" X 3 or ??

3/8" X 3 or ??

?? X ??

ETC>>>>>>

Many thanks...... !!!

3/8" in diameter and between 2 1/2" and 4" in length is what I carry on my sheath. When I have a sheath made I specify a 3/8" loop. A loop which is 2 1/4" in length will accomodate most commercial FS i.e. LMF and leave a bit sticking out of the bottom on which to wrap a retaining band/loop/cord around.

i like 3/8" diameter but only because the esee firesteels come in that size and i like re-using their capsules for handles. also, whatever size the lmf ones are. leather is tricky but with kydex, you can always attach the loop via screws to the sheath and let the customer decide what size? obviously the customer can also reheat the kydex loop as the firesteel wears off.

I have 1/4th and 3/8, but use the 3/8 much more. That is the one that would ride on my sheath, if I carried it on a sheath.

BCK, my majority are 3/8" dia. by 4"-5". I have a 1/2" x 6" mounted in a pvc holder, but that has a permanent residence in my camping bag.
Be safe.
