Most daring grind yet...yes that's melodramatic

I got this SHe stripped and with factory asymmetrical edge. I got the idea that I wanted to convex it. Spent probably about 3-5 hours total (did not keep track, probably 4-5 as time flies doing this kind of thing) making sure I got the edge centered and the tip evened out. I know this is far from professional grade, although for my skill level, I am happy with the result. No light under the flat part of the blade, so I am pleased with that too.

I "free-handed" a secondary bevel, spent some time on the "smaller" grind side alone, worked the tip over and ended up doing 19 per side for primary bevel. Not perfect at all, although not sure it needs to be any better than this for me.

Will use and this thing should get even more precise with each touch up.

Mostly, I am just happy I did not screw it up.

Hair wiper, paper slicer and beast at FFG .25" old school INFI!

Need to do this more, and buy less!

Cam,
Your edge appears to be reflecting light evenly and consistently all the way to the apex.

For my money the best tests of your ability is actual field usage doing what you do with your knife...such as questioning yourself like this:

"Will my edge slice and shave from the heel to the tip consistently, or are there catches?"

"Can I slice under control without taking too obtuse of an angle of attack before the edge bites?"

That's more important if you've set it up for slicing, not as important if you're primarily a chopper guy.

If you use you knife more like a hatchet:

"When I use it to chop and notch does the edge roll or deform?"

"Do I like how deeply it bites in green wood with controlled swings or does it bounce?"

And a question I find pretty unique to INFI users:

"Can I bring the edge back EASILY with an edge trailing, stropping motion on a crock stick or belt or similar after normal usage?"

These questions are self checks that have served me well, YMMV. But the best thing about them is that they must be answered by usage not by visual inspection only. :)

If your sharpening passes those questions to your satisfaction, I'd say you're well on your way to personal sharpening Nirvana.

Good call on the SH-e, btw...

For my money, the original Ergo series are the best full tang models for Busse.

May all be in my head, but that generation of INFI takes a really "crisp" edge.

I hear you! I wanted to get the grind right, and then test it out - I could not stop until I got it evened out with the convex edge. It has passed the slicer test as a big INFI wedge, and I am hopeful I can answer the other questions satisfactorily as well. I have a few that I have done that I need to chop and notch with...Just need to get some test wood/2*6's...will report back.

Appreciate the feedback...

Love both of your pics, the second pic with "tan micarta" is something special indeed!

I also have this "quasi-grail" - funny story is that I bought the greenest of green sheaths off the exchange for a good price figuring I could fit something in it...the seller did not know what it was for...turns out, it seems it was literally made for the CS SHe pictured...it could not be a more perfect fit and a wonderfully crafted sheath!

Note - always buy green leather sheaths when you see them...

Yep! the handle on that CS is not as wide laterally as the regular SHe's...quite a nice slim profile and it is amazing how such a small difference makes it feel zippier in hand.

One is obviously done by someone with more skill than the other!

At least I have a convexed big bro now...

That right there is the only knife anyone would ever need. Sweet job.
I’m an asymmetrical kinda guy myself. Seems to be the edge that works and last sharp the longest for my uses.
