Most durable finish?

It sounds to me the most durable finishes are:

1. Double Cut
2. Desert

Any ideas?

thanks, Ligament

From my understanding Double Cut will show scratches from use but since it is a treatment and not a coating I believe it would stay "sharp" looking for longer. Wait for more knowledgable folks to drop in though...that is just my 2 cents.

From what people have said based on their own experience the desert finish is extremely durable.

I'm going to say it depends on what you consider "durable"
The double cut finish is not a coating so it will remain the same color and texture even after much use, however, it will scratch and show those scratches.

The Desert Finish is extremely durable but will eventually wear off, after much use, once it starts to wear off it will be obvious that it is a coated knife that has been used.

I'd say that the Desert finish will stay nicer looking for a longer period of time.

double cut then satin, they will patina and look coolest over time

I have a few satin finished knives, I’m glad now that I went for the double cut for the FSH, I haven’t tried double cut as yet.

For a coating, the Desert seems to be in a class by itself. It's just that tough.

For a finish, I have both Satin and Double cut. I prefer the DC if you are going to use the knife at all. Both will show scratches, but they REALLY show up on a satin blade. Besides with a dinged up DC blade a trip through the blast cabinet will set everything right.

I just want the most durable treatment or finish available, whatever will prolong the life of my blade the most, this will be for a very heavy use blade. It sounds like either double cut or desert for me...hey, how about double cut FIRST as a treatment and then put a desert coating on top of it? Would this make the most durable blade possible?

Jerry, care to chime in on this?

Best Regards, Ligament

I have satin, dcut, black crinkle and des tan in use. My favorites are des tan for a coated blade and double cut for uncoated. The des tan seems to be the toughest for coated blades plus I love the coyote color and I just like the dcut better than satin only because it is way less reflective for outdoor use than satin, but the factory zero edge on the satin is scary sharp right out of box. My choice will be the HOFSH with desert tan and black mag handles and maybe another HO with dcut finish and black mag handles

I am dying to get some feedback on the magnum handles. I could see how they would offer advantages in chopping usage, but what about general camp chores? They look like axe handles in the pictures! :(
