Most innovative knife you've seen

After reading countless posts like Sebenza vs. Something or What's The Best Whatever or What's Is In Your Pocket, I came to the conclusion that the Sebenza is *one* of the grail folders out there (like a Strider, XM-18, and others, including the one you are about to flame me for not including on the list). I ordered the Sebenza, and not having funds to buy them all, this will have to suffice as my grail knife. So, for conventional folders, I'm done for now.

My question is, where do I go from here? I like folders, but want something different. I've stumbled across a few, like the S & W Viper or the Columbia River Rollock. What's the oddest or most innovative or different folder design you've seen?

G&G Hawk's ET knife which was mass produced by Kershaw. I have three of the Kershaw ET's and one custom from Gavin that I just love. Highly innovative pieces these knives. I'll never part with it even though I only carry it now and then.

Cold Steel Ti-Lite, since the ET has already been mentioned. I'm guessing by innovative you mean "practicality not only takes a back seat but it is practically inside the trunk".

I'm adding CRKT Hitchcock Hole in One and CRKT Van Hoy Snap Lock.

Jani-song. Janich now works for Spyderco, so there's hope that we may yet see a Jani-song in the future. EDIT: There were a handful of pre-production models sold, but they carry a hefty price.

The oddest folder I've seen was the now illegal Spatznez (sp?) which shot the blade out the front about 20 feet, kinda a self throwing knife.

That is a Spetsnaz ballistic knife and it is very, very illegal for a variety of great reasons. :p However, word is that you might be able to get the handle--the important part with the launching mechanism and all--imported, where the knife is replaced with a baton instead. You'll have to fashion the knifeblade yourself.

i remember something called a " roloc " back in the '80's. very innovative for its time. anybody got a pic or link to one. it was insanely sharp.

Cool stuff (except for that Spaznitz thing). That Janisong looks like a lot of fun to learn to use. I wonder why Spyderco never came out with it?

It was a Blackhawk Designs knife at first. When Janich wanted to put them into production, the company that was going to make them backed out...so he only had a handful of pre-production runs. These sold for around 500ish bucks. Now that he's been working with Spyderco, he's sold the rights of the Jani-song to Spyderco. When I asked him about when we might see one hit the market, he said that it'd have to be after Spyderco comes out with what they already have planned. As I hear it, the Jani-song is basically be redefined atm. After Spyderco releases their planned upcoming products, we might see the Jani-song.

Wow, thanks for the inside scoop. I hope this gets bumped up the Spyderco product list.

You're welcome. There's an extensive thread about Michael Janich over at the spyderco.com forums. He replies back as best as he can.
