So I've seen several threads asking for a nice low key knife for using around people at the office/school/dates/etc. I just thought I'd see what people would think were the MOST intimidating designs, while still being practical to carry. Sometimes it's just fun to piss off people that think a pocket knive is meant for stabbing.

I'm leaning towards the ZT 300 series, although that's bordering on the edge of too big at 8.6 ounces. I've handled one, but don't own one, so I can't say how practical it is. I'd give an honorable mention to the BM 810 as it carries easily, especially for it's size, and is still intimidating. Anyone else have ones that would fit this bill?

I'm not really looking to buy one, just curious at to people's thoughts.

My Cold Steel Recon 1 with the ultra lock and spear point always get second looks. Even from guys that carry guns all day!

IMO there are generally several specific things that contribute to the "scariness" of a knife.

Size - Bigger is scarier.

Shape - Exotic shapes and curves seem to push the fear button.

Color - Being black makes things tactical, being tactical means it's a tool for murder.

BM 810, some of the lager exotic shaped spydies (szabo), some cold steel offerings.

There are tons of knives that fit this bill. Microtechs in general come to mind to me. OTF knives always get weird looks when you deploy one around non knife people. +1 for the BM 810. I like to whip out any knife with the wave as for some reason because it deploys coming out of your pocket. I am more interested in the non discrete knives, this is my type of thread. There are so many different blades, interested in all the different responses.

i see balisongs as the most intimidating knife, well because of those bad guys depictions in movies.

i tried liking balisong designs though.

There are heaps and heaps of initmidating EDCs. Here's a quick rundown of some that come to mind:

Benchmade: The Contego, along with the Mini Onslaught and the Bedlam.

Spyderco: pretty much any fully-serrated folder, regardless of size.

Kershaw: Junkyard Dog 2.

ZT: 0700.

Cold Steel: all their bigger offerings.

Emersons: pretty much their entire lineup.

Microtech: ditto.

I'll play.

The CS XL Recon Tanto fits the bill:

About four inches of blade, I think. So, toward the big side, but still fits in the pocket.

Cold Steel has a bunch of these. Here's the Black Sable:

Honorable mention to this big Benchmade Persian:

We should have a karambit in here, too. Anybody?

Karambits are known for looking scary as they are made for defensive use. That BM Persian is very sexy looking. I would get it in a plain edge however.

the Spyderco Police is in my small EDC rotation, and I dont know if I would call it intimidating, but it definitely surprises folks to see so much knife in an easy to carry package.

To me "Intimidating EDC" is an oxymoron...I cut objects with my knife, not intimidate people with it. But I'll play anyway!

I'd have to go with the DarkOps Stratofighter Covert Tanto.

1) It's got plenty of writing on the blade, and that always scares people. Though a skull might be nice somewhere....I guess one could always put a skull bead on a lanyard.

2) The name! It makes people run away like little girls. It got "Ops", "Fighter", AND "Covert" in it. If they threw "X-Treme" in the name somewhere, people would soil their pants.

3) Hello! Its a tanto.

4) It emits toxic green vapor and it's blade glows blood red!

5) 2 blood grooves!!!

6) It even intimidates a potential buyer! Dark Ops says "... built to the durability requirements of full-on, Spec-Ops combat! If you need a utility folder, this is not the knife for you." You not a high speed spec ops killing machine?!? Then don't even think of buying it, you pansy!

It's the total intimidation package for the incredibly select user who is awesomely terrifying enough to carry it.
