Hey all ,

Just wanted to share my most recent kiridashi, made from O-1,differentially heat treated, and about 5.5 inches long. The sheath is dogwood and cocobolo and the patina is from ceramic stovetop cleaner ( ran out of lemon juice). I'm not sure if what I think is a hamon is actually decarb (what do you guys think?), but it's fairly interesting when you catch it in the right light - looks a bit like an ocean wave to me lol. Anyways, enjoy :

Hello Chopsuey9999!
It can be the Yakiba the line of the heating, but i think it is the hamon. I hope I answer.

Thanks Mark,

Forgive my ignorance, but how can you tell the difference between the yakiba and the hamon?

hello peter
hamon appears on the line when the coating is lowered all the blade, or if there is a stopper in the coolant. yakiba appear on the boundary if the boundary of the heating heat gets into the coolant. If you have more questions i'll gladly answer:)

Thanks again Mark :D , that clears things up a bit for me. The way I tempered the blade was by using a blow torch and heating the head of the kiridashi ( for lack of better terms) , and quenching it into vegetable oil - the effect I suppose is similar to what Brian Goode does on his pieces.
