I postede a thread some time ago in the custom forum about the most under rated maker. I am interested in hearing some opinions about the most under rated production folder.

Dennis: Based on what I (don't) hear on these forums, the Outdoor Edge Magna and Gigand Titan would qualify as severely underrated. Neither of them get much mention. Come to think of it, outside of Spyderco, BM, Sebenza, and Apogee, not much else gets mentioned either.

BM 350 ~ 1/2 serrated, and this is in regards to my needs - i.e. carried daily in my back pocket. Steel - ATS 34, flat profile (after clip is removed), right size, always "works", passes liner lock test, sharpens easily & stays "sharp enough", price is right.

Not the knife I'd want for all situations, but the one I've carried in my back pocket for a year+ and been fairly happy with.

The Buck Odyssey II with CF scales. For the price with beautiful carbon fiber scales that are clear coated and a well executed liner-lock that passes all the tests. You can't beat it for $50.

The Spyderco Wegner and Wegner Jr.

REKAT Pioneer: great ergos, sturdy lock, tremendous edge holding; you can find them for around $60 -- hard to beat at the price...

Benchmade 750. There's been so much talk about how it's a copy of a Sebenza (I'm not touching THAT topic) that the fact that it's a really good knife has been lost.

Just to be a pain - Sebenza. Don't knock it until you have tried it. And I mean tried it, carried and used everyday for six months or so. Otherwise, it's just another uninformed opinion.

Ya know,
A couple of knives I don't see mentioned too much here are the CRKT M16 series and the OE Magna. These are some real brute, hell-for-stout work knives that are relatively inexpensive and deliver more in the way of performance than what you shell out for them. If you do manage to bust one up or lose it, you won't be out an entire paycheck when you go to replace it. Buy it and use it and abuse it with impunity, they'll come back for more.
Many folders have these attributes nowadays, but these two don't seem to get the press that I, personally, think they deserve.

Kinda surprised that no one has mentioned the Sebenza yet.

BTW, I totally agree with Johan's post! Well said!

Buck Model 110.

We have come to take it for granted. Its a truely great design at a fantastic price. I can get 10+copies for the price of a Sebenza.

Buck Lightning series. Cheap and reliable. From the ones I've used, one of the best liner-lock ups of any liner-lock.

I offer the Buck 532. A slim, solid midlock which features filework on the liners (the only production knife I'm aware of that does so).

Offered originally in 1991, its merits were not promoted so sales were not astounding. This despite it being considered a favorite among Buck management. Special editions still pop up, most recently last year's Master Series and a Limited Edition jigged bone version. At least 3 versions again will be available for 2000, all will sport BG-42 steel.

A good number of forumites have embraced the 532 as a great piece once they were able to latch onto one. And so it goes....

Anything by Tom Anderson. He makes a Viele class knife but still does not seem to be getting much recognition. I have one of his Mohawk Warriors and it is the nicest tactical folder I own, and yes I have 2 Sebenzas.
