I have a piece of gear that i have never seen discussed on this forum and i personally could NOT live without where i am. i understand it may not be an essential everywhere, however at certain times of the year this is something i would take into the bush over anything outside of clothes and a knife. it's atop my "essentials" list and there is MUCH to consider when picking one up.

if you want a full review on things to avoid and/or look for in this i'll be more than happy to do one up because i've been through truckloads of these things...in every style
everyone uses them where i'm from, just wondering how widespread their use is.

BUGJACKETS!!!!

they are ultra light and infinetly helpful.

Never owned one but I've been mighty tempted. Head net just isn't enough to relax from the Scottish midge. I've taken a tent more than once exclusively because of those - gas 'em out with a burning coil, shut the door, and don't come out 'till morning.

Please do so! I was very close to buy one at my last visit to LeBaron but ended up buying a Lansky kit instead :D Looking forward to your recommandations

I have used headnets on occasion while canoeing in Canada and Alaska (mostly while portaging). I never really felt the need even there for a full bug jacket, though. I always found regular applications of DEET kept the bitting down, and the only real problem I experienced was the annoyance of having the little bastards flying into my mouth, eyes and ears! Maybe I just managed to miss the worst of the no-see-um and blackfly seasons?

I'd be interested in hearing the opinions of a regular user, though!

some of us don't use bug jackets

However, in the glades in the summer, I don't know how we got by without them.

I've used a full bug jacket (and pants) for many years. Very handy in the arctic or swampy areas. Mine is the fine no-seeum proof mesh. The main drawback is that if you stretch the jacket tight over bare skin, skeeters can use it as a drilling template. The pants have a substantial fishnet webbing under the mesh to keep it off your skin.

Some of my friends use the larger mesh variety bug jackets that you soak in DEET. They seem to work OK but you have to keep up with bug doping them or they eventually become useless.

We had the bug dope ones as kids, I'm sure that did me no end of good... and I now have one of the other ones, but I've found that they are awkward, and when there are a lot of bugs, they collapse the netting against you and go nuts! still better than soaking in deet I guess. I use it on occasion, the occasion that I remember I own it...

All it is netting treated with this

Or a similar product, so just treat your clothing and wear a bug head net and glove’s. And DEET for any exposed areas.
Used it for many years.
Laying in a hammock and watch a Black Fly land on the net and see it tingle and leap off....Ha sucker...:D
The Ms. loves to travel so for many years unbeknown to her I treated all her clothing and gear,no bites as she told me But her friends were chow [she did not know till last year] hee hee
