Most Unnoticeable but Accesible Knife Carry

I recently started carrying a William Henry carbon fiber Lancet in my shirt pocket and it is really noticed. (No negative comments so far, even by the most knife paranoid). But, it got me thinking about which carry method is the most unnoticeable while still having the knife easily reached. IWB has been noticed on at least one occasion.

I'm not afraid to carry or anything like that just wondering what the forumites opinions on this are.

P.S. Yeah, I know, it's supposed to be accessible. But what can you do when you misspell the word in the subject line?

Inside your pockets is fine. But I hate pocket lint.

I prefer carrying a knife clipped to the inside pocket of a vest, cross draw style. I've been carrying my Sifu like that and no one has noticed. When its too warm for a vest I carry IWB in the rear on my strong side, where a shirt tail covers it nicely.

Pocket is what I usually use on folders. For fixed blades I usually hide them in the small of my back inside the pants carry. This works good for folders that you don't want people to see as well but I like people to know I'm packing.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

RDaneel,

Second question first: Answer - once you hit submit, it is forever out of reach, unless you can bribe a moderator or administrator to in and fix it for you.

First question: I am about to start working on Mike Sastre to see if I can con him into making a "Pocket plate" to carry a clip folder in hip pocket.

Let me know what you think.

I carry my folders clipped to my right front pocket. An untucked tee shirt will usually conceal the clip.Thats probably the most accessible location for me and no one has ever questioned me if they caught a glimpse of the clip.In fact clip spotting is one of my favorite pastimes when I`m at the mall waiting for my wife to come out of a store. On the rare occasion that I choose to carry a concealed fixed blade I have had good luck with horizontal carry above my right hip bone under an untucked shirt and have experimented with pocket carry via the use of a drag line anchored to my belt above my right front pocket.I`ve carried IWB with a drag line as well again with the knife tucked in my belt above my right hip bone.Un-noticed and accessable I think, depends alot on your mode of dress and physique. It`s fun to stand in front of the mirror and try different carry methods.

I carried a BM 350 in my sock for a while. It was light, and VERY concealed. Now, I hide whatever piece I have on me, IWB, strong side, between pager and cell phone. Easily reached, and looks like part of my tech-stuff to the naked/untrained eye.

Fixed blade, I carry my home modified Livesay UJI Fighter in its original Kydex rig, IWB, strong side, slightly towards the rear. I usually wear a looser shirt, left untucked, with a t shirt underneath. Works out fine for me that way, and deployment is sweet.

For my folder, I use a smallish nylon sheath that I wear horizontal, directly behind me (to the right). It's obvious to anyone who sees me from behind, but not when I approach people. Since anyone who interacts with me knows that I'm totally harmless, I like the chance to break the ice before they notice I'm carrying.

I also find this kind of carry much easier to draw from than any vertical carry. I insert the knife with the pivot to the right, and the thumb lug on the top.

In the fall or in the winter I like to carry in my coat pocket. Of course I still have one clipped in my right front pants pocket.

Benchmade Axis in right front pocket, clip out as designed. Spyderco Endura or Police G10 in left back pocket, clip out. Majority of dress in Hawaii is casual aloha shirt, mostly untucked.

Right front and back left pockets, with shirt untucked.

Inside jacket pocket, crossdraw.

On some jeans, there's a leather tag above the back right pocket, sewn on the top and bottom, for a belt to slip under it. I don't wear a belt, so I slip a folder into the tag, clip out. With an untucked shirt or slightly long jacket, it's totally concealed. Very fast on the draw. This is my favorite place to carry, so much so that I've almost stopped wearing my other pants.

Gotta look for those pants of mine with those leather tags for belts. I have to try that. Looks fast and comfortable.

Thanks for the tip Jason.

With all of these great ideas that have been mentioned, it kind of makes you wonder how many folks around me are carrying and I don't know it.

Thanks for all the ideas. Keep them coming.

all depends on the occation... and the knife in question...but for instance the microtech lcc can be carried inside the pants cross drawand the clip is hidden by your belt...works for me

For a folder, clipped into right front pocket. Works well for me and is fast. For a fixed blade, hanging upside-down on the strong side from belt, concealed by a longer untucked shirt. Depending on edge orientation, a VERY fast draw (with a good fitting kydex sheath without special retaining straps etc) to reverse or saber grip. Very good concealment with a flat medium-sized blade and sheath.

I have had great success with clipping knives to the rear edge of the cargo pocket on the right side of my pants. It keeps the knife away from Keys, change, etc, that might scratch it or impede deployment. Since it rides past the main seam, it is virtually undetectable from the front. Generally there is a flap tht covers most of the clip, too. This is as fast as regular pocket deployment and carrying at the rear of the pocket allows one to use the Wave feature on Emerson Commanders. Now that Docker's and other well known casual slacks manufacturers make cargo pants, they are pretty main stream and I don't feel out of place wearing them anywhere but church. One of the best things is that the draw from a seated position is as fast as standing! This is great for someone who drives or otherwise sits a lot.
Magill's catalog offeres an in-the-pocket knife sheath that works with all folders except the largest, like the MOD Dieter,CTKT large KFF, Emerson commander. They make one for right or left handed carry and they work great. I have one of each and use them when not wearing cargo pants. They keep the knife well planted, upright and free of other stuff in the pocket. Hope this helps,
David

I know a guy thats been carrying his Endura in the waistband, front right side. He is very quick with it on deployment. With a tucked in shirt you just pull alittle shirt over the top of the knife. The clip goes behind the belt. I don't know if anyone has ever spotted his knife. With the right clip on a knife, it would never be seen.
