what is the most used and popular multi tool amoung everyone???
leather man, vic tool ect.......
those who are cops or firemen that multi-tools do you used used in your industry.

cheers.

I have gone through many a fine Leatherman Tool, including Micra and Juice, and the SOG Powerlock, and Gerber (800, I think) and Schrade Tough Tool, and a couple of cheapies. And the Swisstool Spirit.

I liked the Swisstools right from the start but they were BIG. The Spirit is more compact, very smooth - no clumping - and ergonomic. Only the pliers rotate out. The other tools are available with the tool closed.

So the Swistool Spirit is the one I kept.

Sog Powerlock. I am also partial to the Leatherman PST.

I always keep a POS Winchester in my Carhart in case I happen to not have anything else handy.

My favorite multi tool as fare as quality goes is the Vic Swiss tool. However, at work I carry a LM Charge Ti. As a LEO I would say yes I use a multi tool on a regular basis. Some common areas would be removing license plates from cars that are being towed for false plates, during search warrants to remove light covers etc, cut seat belts and have used the pliers to remove packets of heroin from a box full of used needles.

I found the Schrade Tool with the adjustable plier head ideal in my work as an apartment complex "handyman". In the past few years, I've found the Leatherman Core or SuperTool 200 to be sufficient.:)

For Heavy Duty stuff, I pack the Leatherman Surge or SOG Powerlock. The Surge is great if I need a stout tool with a lot of bits. I micro toolbox if you will. The SOG is great if I just need clamping power.

Generally, I found that a wrench is actually more of what I need rather than pliers. I have gotten back into tinkering on old jeeps, and doing the adjustments that come on the fly with my CJ, the wrench has really saved me a couple of times. I have been happily packing a Byrdrench since Christmas for EDC. The plier jaws will pop beer caps easily too;)

The most popular multitools may not be the "best" tools. Leatherman products are sold in just about every big box store in the USA so they get wider exposure to the consuming public than say Victorinox or SOG. Gerber is probably the second most widely marketed brand in my area.

I have multitools of a few different brands, but most often use a Victorinox Spirit or SwissTool X and a Leatherman Micra.

Leatherman Supertool for me. I'v been carrying a Leatherman for about 5 years now, and if I lost it today, I'd go buy another one tomorrow.

I like swisstools the best, all the tools are accesible without opening the pliers and it just feels alot more solid than the Leathermans (or is it leathermen?). They are also 100% stainless which makes them practically maintainence free. IMHO they are worth the extra weight, they'r practically bomb proof. I cant say anything about SOGs, I have never seen them but I would take a swisstool over a leatherman any day. As for your question, I think the LM wave is the most popular mutitool in North America.

Having used both, I prefer Leatherman implements as being more like dedicated tools than those on the Swisstools. Vic gets points for fit and finish, but overall, Leatherman's is good enough, also has better tools and is easier to use on the job.

I'm prety sure that overall LMs are most popular, and I think their Wave models is the most popular model. Not 100% sure, but that's my impression.

I am sure many will tell you Vic or Leatherman, but I still prefer the Gerber mp600 series, I find them much better to use!

But Leatherman has the functionality:thumbup:

swisstool for me
i have a Wave, Juice, Flair, Mini and a swisstool
the swisstool is in an open top carrier whenever i am dressed, if im not dressed its within 2 or 3 metres of me

its big, heavy but i dont need to worry about whether its sharp, or if its got the bit i need
