Most Valuable Busse?

By strange circumstances I became the owner of three identical, rare Busses several years ago. I have often contemplated selling one of these, but it has become too valuable to sell. It is my rationalization knife.

Every time I am really conflicted over spending the money for another Busse, I rationalize, "well, I could always sell it and break even." The problem is, I have done this so often that, to break even, I would have to get approximately $8,000 for it.:D

Mike, spill it. What blades are you talking about! I'm sure the other piglets are waiting with baited breath.

Oh yeah,

Two schools of thought on this one. One is the user mentality, which says that the most valuable knife is the one you have on you when you need it. The other is the collector mentality, which says that the most valuable knife is the one that you probably ought to sell but don't.

I try hard to stay on the user side of that line.

You could always take two of those rare Busses out and give them a good beating. Then, the mint one would be even more rare. :D

Hey, this ain't an offer to sell, just some Thursday morning foolishness. Besides, if I sell my rationalization knife, how am I going to justify buying future Busses? And it's value goes up everytime I buy another knife!

You could justify it as supporting Jerry's kid's college fund as well as developing a collection of family heirlooms to pass down to future generations. You know that sentimental stuff...

I think if you have three of them, you need to sell one to me and one to Cobalt, then you will have the money to buy other knives you don't have! I used to have some multiple quantities of the same knife but figured if I wasn't using even one of them, I certainly didn't have the need for several of them (well, Steel Hearts don't count)!! So I sold them and bought models I didn't have. Now, sell me one of those unused recurve desert fighters!

:D

I understand your question completely.

The rationalization item helps you move forward and purchase other things you want even though its improbable that you will ever sell it.

I would advise keeping one or both of the extra knives.

I recently actually traded one of the rationalization pieces in my collection and it inhibits me now knowing that it is not there.

Ummm - I think the MVB [proper] would have to be Jerry ;)

Of course the MVP for Busse would accordingly have to be AMY!! :D :D :D

And the MVK (most valuable knife) from Busse would have to be any one I currently have in my hot little hands!!!

Cool,

The most I ever sold a Busse for was $3,000.00 U.S.

Of course that was about five years ago.

I did not know any had broken the $5,000.00 U.S. level.

Of course times they are a changing.

I think Mike was just saying he resold the knife in his head so many times to buy other knives, that he would have to get $8000 for it to break even (for those purchases), not that he thought is was worth that much.

Andre, just curious, but what model did you get $3000 for?

Exactly!!!

Randucci,

It was a Custom thirty inch overall Sword, a little heavy, but great for working sword Kata's!

Gave a Great work out.

Back when Busse Swords were very hard to come by, and for $100.00 per inch you could expect to wait for two years to get one made.

For a buy it right now New condition Busse sword it was a deal at $3,000.00 U.S.

Edited to add,

It may have been a little longer than thirty inches, I seem to remember it having a 21 inch blade.

Is this the Dragon's Fang you speak of?

So what are these knives you guys speak of? Is it some sort of secret?

The most valuable Busse that I know of is the Dragons Fang, which I believe is owned by either Chuck or Scott.

Raden,

No, this sword pre-dates the Fang abit.

I think it may have been the first INFI sword made, was early anyway, still had screw type handle fasteners.

I've never heard of this sword, do you have a pic? That would be awesome.
