Motherboard Issues - Help me

If anyone could help I would be very appreciative. I just recently purchased a Powercolor Radeon 9800 pro, and installed it, but still wasn't getting the FPS I would like on larger levels in UT 2004. I know that my RAM is very slow for some reason on this computer, so I tried resetting my BIOS to "optimized settings." (I have a Shuttle AK32) Then, next time I turned on my computer I found that it recognized my CPU as a athlon xp 1500+, not a 2200+ as it should be. I remembered that when I first installed it, I had to change the CPU multiplier, and the cpu speed. I also know that when I first installed it, I turned one of them too high and the computer would not boot. I reset the BIOS using the jumper on the motherboard, and I put it at the correct settings, which are 133mhz x 13.5. That was several years ago. I think today I put it at 166x14, or something like that, and when I booted it up, it did not boot and started beeping over and over. Naturally, I reset it with the jumper, but it did the same thing. I have tried resetting it many times, but it will not work. I even tried flashing the bios with the instructions in the manual, (drivers on floppy) but I don't think it worked. The same beeping is happened.

So basically, the question is: Did I kill my computer? If yes, which parts, and what do I do now?
If no, how do I fix it?

Thanks for any help. I have searched everywhere, and found nothing to help me with this. Also, Shuttle's tech support seems to be a bit lacking.

In your motherboard manual is a key to the beep codes. Match up the beep pattern and you'll know what's wrong.

Sounds to me like you might have fried the CPU.

Yeah, probably. It's slightly annoying. ( )

Unfortunately, I have already read up on beep codes. I checked the manual and the internet, and it does not appear that there are beep codes listed anywhere for this motherboard.

Don't motherboards come with a safety circuit to prevent frying it?

Try taking out as much as possible and starting up the computer. Set everything in BIOS on Auto or factory default. If it still happend then there's definitely something seriously wrong with the board.

Good time to buy a new computer though. Buy a proper PC next time. Not those teeny weeny shuttles. Big is always better. :)

James, what size of power supply are you using. The 9800 pro and up require a min of 300 watts and often that isn't enough.Try pulling the card and rebooting.Make sure you touch the case to eliminate a static charge before you pull the card.

You may also want to try clearing the CMOS by removing the lithium battery for a few minutes. Resetting it with the jumpers should do the same thing in principle, but who knows, maybe this will work. You could also try re-seating the RAM sticks. Also, try to boot up the system using your old video card. If you can, try to check the power supply as well. Finally, don't forget to check for loose screws and such inside the case that might be shorting something.

Good luck and let us know if you find a solution.

Dan

Thanks for all the help. I tried everything suggested, but there was no change. I'm sure it's fried. Oh well. I think I'll have to get a barebones system and switch over the stuff that does work.
