Hi guys!!

I have a srg 1.5 being built (should be done end of the month.) I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for motor or motor/vfd combo.
Not sure I can afford the vfd just yet, I do have another grinder with a smith jones motor linked below. This motor has worked great so far, the dust doesnt get in to the motor but I think I need something a little faster.

Is anyone using the srg grinders?

Check out Automation Direct. You can get the same specs on a 3 phase Iron Horse motor for the same price. They also have a 2hp 3 phase motor for about the same price (though it's 3600 RPM). Their 1800 RPM 2 hp motors are a little more expensive.

You can get get a 2hp (1.5kw) chinese VFD for less than $100 that will get the job done just fine until you are ready to upgrade. Most of them require 220VAC input though, so keep that in mind. If you only have 110VAC available at the moment, you'll probably have to go with a 1hp VFD and the 1hp 3 phase motor. The 110VAC input VFDs usually run about $130ish to $150ish, IIRC. Also keep in mind they're open frame, so you need to keep the dust out of them, or they self destruct.

I have been using a Kadrmas SRG 1.5 for the last 1.5 years. Has been rock solid with no issues. I have a 1 hp Iron Horse motor and a KB Electronics VFD. The whole set up has been bullet proof and I have yet to stall or bog down the machine. As a hobby maker- this set up has been perfect for me.
