Motor question?

This is a little off topic but I got a replacement motor for my home built grinder. It says it's a 2hp "compressor duty" motor. Any ideas about what this means? Is this a light duty motor? Is this unfit for a grinder? It's counter-clockwise too so I have to turn it around backwards to get it to spin my belt correctly. I'm just wondering if I got a decent motor for this grinder.

Thanks,

Hi Derek,

Here is my opinion:

It sounds like a great motor! If it'll run a compressor, then it'll have no problem on the grinder. Compressors have very tough starting loads and run with very high loads continuosly untill the tank is full, then they shut off. That's a tough application! Your grinder on the other hand will start without a load and you'll have plently of idle run time were there is very little load on the motor. However when you lean into the work, then with this new motor you've got up to 2HP of reserve power, YEA! I think it is an excellent choice.... especially for the price.

Look at the nameplate and see if it has a note about reversing the direction. Typically it'll have a schematic for low vlotage hookup (110V) and for high voltage (220v) and a small note about rotation direction.

Sincerely,
Rob

Rob pretty much hit it,but on my lesson 1hp singale phase
I can wire mine go into the switch of from the motor and make it go clock wise or counter clock wise.
rob may need to aid to this, but mine goes both directions depending on the way it is wired.I am a knife maker so my little bit of wireing does not carry much weight all I know is mine does it.
