motor&saw&name change

good morning vietnam,,ha.hey does anyone know if those tread mill motors are good enought to use on grinder??and what cheap band saw for metal is avaibale out there,also how do i change from useing my full whole name to just my handle?? royboy.

Roy,treadmill motors are dc variable speed,which is a good thing,as long as you can get the controls for it.1 1/2-2 hp would work great,you could get by w/1 hp.The downside is,those motors are open which will allow grinding dust to enter motor,which could possibly result in an electrical short out resulting in the loss of,at least your motor.There are knifemakers that use open motors,but they clean them out regularly w/air hose,etc.,TEFC type motors would be a better way to go,(totally enclosed fan cooled).As for changing your name,go to the bottom of this thread and click on contact us,send an email to BFC asking them.

Sorry,forgot the saw.You might try Harbor Freight,1-800-423-2567,their horizontal/vertical metal cutting bandsaw is less than $200. ,and they pay the freight.You want the one that takes 64 1/2" blades,get bi metal blades,you can also use it for wood cutting with the proper blades,if you dont have a wood ctng.,bandsaw.Slow but it works.
