motor shaft steel type

dose anyone know the type of carbon steel used in common industrial ac dc motors and if its any good to play around with in a backyard fordge. have a good supply of 3/8 up to 1 inch

its hard to say but more than likely its not a high enough carbon content to make a good knife. they would be good for practice.

I bet it was low carbon steel. You could make yourself a heavy duty coat rack for your shop out of it though.
