I assume you already know how to forge weld. If not, this ain’t the one to learn on!!

Bundle your chain up as best you can, back and forth into a bundle aprox 8” long. You can wire it up , I don’t except where on the end I am going to attach a handle, I weld (mig but any welding will do) some kind of a mild steel handle and the rest of the chain is very floppy. (wire if you want to but don’t forge weld the wire into your billet). Heat to red and flux (I use nhydrous borax with a pinch of flourspar) Take to welding heat slowly, turning, turning, turning until you are there. Some of the chain sections are thin and you
don’t want to burn them! DON’T whack it all with your hammer, real light blows, just
push the metals together. It will stick and be much less floppy. Remove any binding wire. Now reflux, reheat to welding and hammer your billet more together lightly! (If you whack it at this stage , you will knock apart the welding you have done!) Bringing up to temp slowly and not hitting the #@&&%%^ out of it will keep you from burning the steel and knocking apart your work. As you go, your billet will get more solid and you can use more force and heat a little faster. Won’t be too many heats until you have a solid billet to forge a cool knife from.. Have fun, go easy and please let me know how you do!!!

I hope I helped
