Well, about an hour or so ago, the volcano erupted. 2 hrs estimation time on ash (Not the good kind lol) arriving in KAAK's back yard. Will be fun to see what happens. Just waiting out the details right now and keeping up to date on them. Have the dust mask, just not the drinking water.

Will try to keep ya'll posted.

run down to walmart and get some water, food, and plastic sheeting?

You have just enough time to watch Dante's Peak... LOL. :foot:

How much ash is predicted to fall on you? What are you using to heat your home? Might be a good idea to stock up on some water too, in case your water supply gets contaminated. Do you have a bathtub? Might be worth filling now, while you can. Do you have a few days worth of food? Flashlights & batteries? RF is right about trying for supplies if you have a 24hr. store nearby, but expect a crowd. If your heat source is a heatpump or furnace, you might want to get extra air filters... the system might suck in some ash.

Walmart closed 36 minutes ago. No 24hr walmart here  Should have been stocking up sooner. Mom lives 10 mins down the road and should still have water from the early warnings. May have to raid her house :D

Not sure on the ash fall amount yet. Watching the updates on the local news website to stay informed. Will be interesting. If all else fails, I'll wash with baby wipes hahaha

catch a few flakes on your tongue, make ash angels and throw ash balls at children.

What other fun ash related activities are there?

Best of luck. Here's sending some smoke your way, but I'm sure you'll be getting more than you want.

The water in the tub is more for consumption, if not contaminated... yet? Also, fill any containers ya got. The beauty of filling the tub is that it holds... 40-80 Gal.(?). If no crisis, pull the plug. If so, you have enough for drinking, food prep, hygeine, etc. for days.

Yea boy and I'm on shift over at Beluga Power Plant about 62 miles north of the crater. Got a emergency call in my room at 2340 hrs 3-22 to suit up and move. Our mission is to cover all intakes on turbines that are not running and start putting on additional filter wraps on the turbines selected to run during the ash fall. Shut down everything not deamed necessary and protect the rest as best we can. Snowed about 7" today so we are moving snow just to get to some of the intakes, so we can put ladders up and cover them. Got to take a break right now and thought I would mention whats up but my Bro KAAK got-r-done. My schedule fly out is on Tuesday night, but kinda think thats not happening now. Planes are being rerouted as I type this for sure. It is what it is. Later, going to be a long next 24hrs.

Pix or it didn't happen. LOL

Good luck. Keep yer head down. . . or whatever yer supposed to do in this case.

Good luck to you guys.
Dont know what heating systems you use up there, but
anything that takes air from outside will need to be
dealt with... filter installed and cleaned
often (even a dust mast over the pvc air intake pipe is better than nadda)
Hoping the best for you.
Keep us updated.

I was in Eastern Washington in 1980 when Mt. St. Helens blew, right in the ash path, it was not fun. It was a bright sunny day, about 10:30 in the morning, the ash started falling, it got absolutely black outside for hours. The ash ended up being several inches deep and was a real pain as it just doesn't go away. The whole town was really shut down for a couple of weeks as we had no notice to prepare for it. Twenty nine years later, you can still find the ash if you look in the soil.

I hope there isn't any big ash fallout. I would definately have a few days worth of supplies though. I chacked the news, it doesn't look like there has been much ash yet. Take care all that are up ther and let us know how you are.

Well, I'm about 500 miles West, and I'm also upwind so there should be no concerns out here. Y'all keep yourselves safe.

It may be a good time to mention preparedness: It's always a good thing to do on a regular basis. I grew up with a preparedness mindset for a couple of reasons: My folks were raised during the Great Depression, they ALWAYS saved for a day they'd have nothing available. I was also the son of the Scoutmaster, the BSA Motto :
"Be Prepared" was always on our minds. In addition, my church leaders have always pushed preparedness as an important thing. They recommend having a year's supply of things you'd need on hand. I'm a member of the LDS Church (a Mormon) and Utah has several thriving businesses that are strictly in the emergency prearedness business. One decent one that is available online is Emergency Essentials which really has some good stuff (and some cheesy stuff as well.)

The importance of my family's preparation became vitally apparent for our then small community of Chugiak during the Alaska earthquake of 1964. If you don't know about it, it was the largest recorded earthquake in the history of North America. Destruction was catasrophic. It was a LONG time before anything became available. My family and the other members of our church in the area gave a lot of supplies to some of the poor families for a while.

Living on the coast of the Bering Sea, preparation is a way of life. We have probably 8 months worth of food on hand, and I have 5-5 gallon containers of water in the closet. Lots of ammunition on hand, and of course, several Busses.
