mountain lion traveled 1500 miles

very interesting indeed.makes you wonder how many have made it over here to the east coast over the past years. some of the sightings here maybe a western mtn lion. who knows.

I know that there are a few in the Eastern KY counties. I haven't personally seen them, but I've seen pics on game camera's down there. A few black bears too.

Maybe more will come and lower our Deer population. I just don't get why the Mountain Lion would leave Greenwich, CT to go to Milford??? Must be the high taxes...

why conneticut period? i have not bothered to look but i wonder if he followed river basins. that tends to be the way bears travel long distances. wonder if its the same for mtn lions.. this baffles me why he traveled so far.

Think of all the roads and highways he had to cross and the populated areas he had to travel through to get there. What an amazing walkabout just to end up being killed by an SUV. Bummer.

Around here, there are stories about the DNR bringing in cougars to lower the deer population but denying their existence. Maybe this is a case of relocation.

we have rumors like that down here. i think they should tell folks but they know folks will be killing these things off quickly bc of small children and everyone has a dog or some kind of animal... there are better ways of controling the deer population than importing cougars... coyotes do a great job killing young deer

i am originally from AL and was there for on vacation for 3 weeks during june. collectively my family owns several hundred acres of wooded and farmland. several of my family members (old and young) swear that they have seen mountain lions around. recently and in the past. i don't know, i grew up there and spent most of my time in those woods and never saw crap... i think folks let their imaginations get the best of them sometimes. there have also supposedly been several bear sightings around there. i don't know...
mountain lions and bears are common around here (western MT) and i have seen quite a few up close and personal. i just think that folks from areas that really don't have these animals see things and assume that they saw a bear or lion, when it was probably just a dog, coyote, bobcat, or even just shadows playing tricks on them.
but what do i know! folks that saw this lion during it's travels were probably told that they were crazy or just seeing things. something to think about i suppose...

I live in MN and my parents live just off the MN river and there is a decent sized park reserve that I grew up hiking in. I remember when that same animal was spotted in the area near my house.

This story has gotten lots of interest ! Some states have introduced the cats to take care of deer populations .Some states have them from natural expansion of the population .And many states deny they exist ! The mountain lion is an animal who's habitate goes from Canada to Argentina ! I live a few hundred yards from Panther Brook PA where 100 years ago they were obviously here and some say they still are .

I find it very interesting that the cat sighted in Greenwich and then killed in Milford is assumed to be the same one. It would have had to cover 30 + miles of very densely populated urban Ct and swam the mouth of the Housatonic River[over 1/2 mi at that point] in 4 days to be the same one. All without being seen! Maybe he took the bridge! I understand the distance could be easily traveled but I'm a little skeptical about the swim.--KV

Around here people say that the MCD introduced honey bears and parachuted beavers in. I dont even know what a honey Bear is . They are also bringing in Bobcats that are destroying the turkey population. Heard that one not long ago. We already have good populations of beavers and bobcats .I dont know how people come up with this stuff.

this really isn't hunting or fishing, but i thought you guys might find it interesting;

Interesting yes, but its all BS. There have long been reports of big cats here in CT and I konw many people who have seen them. There was a farmer east of the river who shot one recently as it was killing livestock. It had a tracking collar with a phone number, that number was the Colorado DEP. The guy who was on the other end said that the cat was one of a number sold to CT to control the deer population. Introduction of mountain lions to CT was started years ago, in the 1980s when a dozen or so breeding pairs were released in the northwest hills. DEP has always denied they exist but they are here.

I thought I saw one driving home from work on RT-53 in Weston one evening last year. I could never be sure as it ran quickly across the road and it was twilight. I just put it off as it could have been anything. Now I'm beginning to think maybe....

why would they release an animal that could very well be harmful to people, children, pets etc without telling anyone? i know why, bc people would get PISSED. the least they could do is to warn folks. what if you been camping a certain woods all your life with no worries and they release a few cougars?

Same kind of story the farmers spread here. It must be true, they heard it from their brothers, uncles, cousins, who heard a conservation agent talking about it.
