Mountain Man, Tracker or Trapper?

I have no idea where or when the pattern originated , but it is my favorite pattern with preferably only One Blade .

I know I have a version from the 1970's. I would have to look to see if Queen called it "Mountain Man".

The OP has some beautiful specimens .

I was lucky to acquire a number before the prices sky rocketed. The D2 versions I own take an excellent edge.

The original one blade Remington Bullet 1306 and 1303 lock back knife pattern was produced in the 1920s.
Surely the Remington patterns were based on some other's manufacturer's knife pattern previous to the Bullet knife introduction. Just little changes in style, such as the bullet shield, and grip shape.

The industrial revolution created a problem: saturation of the market. There was so much being made that soon people were able to buy what they needed, then manufacturer's had to become creative in making new "fashionable" goods, specialization, and planned obsolescence to get people to buy.

The flatware industry is a good example. The so called "high culture" of the traditional flatware setting was in fact created by manufacturers, through in print influencers, to get people to imitate the "Cultural Elites" and buy more flatware. And cups. As you can see, there is a “proper” knife, fork, spoon, and glass, for the smallest of food differences. It was considered boorish and uncultured, to use one knife, one spoon, and one fork for everything! This just shows the power of advertising to shape and mold people's attitudes, behaviors, and culture.

Something else was the need to create new, novel, and useful knife variations and models. Lockbacks go back at least 500 years, and we know of variants of the lock back mechanism that pre date 1900

So I am certain, the Remington Bullet knives were a blending of existing technologies and features. Just as what Queen did in creating the Mountain Man knife pattern. My 1976 Mountain Man is thinner than the 2000-2015 period Mountain Man knives. And, the later knives have a much better polish, Queen is charging a premium, and buyers are expecting pretty knife!

You got it in my book! Best versions are the original and Tony Bose’s Wilfred Lockback hunter. The Camillus, Queen and GEC versions are too thick and clunky for my taste.
