I picked this knife up in a trade probably 14 years ago. When I got the knife from the maker he told me he forged the metal from cable and the whole thing was made by his hands. This guy was big and when I say big I mean big.He called himself Mountain Man and all though this knife has no markings I saw a couple of other knives he maid and they had MMan in the shape of mountains on the blade.I live in San Diego,Ca and he said he was living out in the eastern part of the county. I know this is a long shot but is anybody familiar with this guy or maybe heard of him or his knives? The sheath is kinda worn but is also handmade. Thanks JR Link: http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=1478462&uid=804707&members=1

Some of the handles he makes sure look like the same maker but unfortunatly his email link doesnt work and I dont have a long distance carrier to make the call. (my own personal protest after being burned many times by LD carriers) Thanks RB

blackeye: I notice this guy's area code shows him being from Montana. Could be your guy moved, or, here's a shot in the dark: Could the maker's mark possibly have been "MHK" in the shadow of a twin-peak design, and not "MM"? If so, you might be talking about Mountain Home Knives, run by a maker named Jim English. He's in Jamul, which I believe is somewhere due east of San Diego, so that
would fit. I can't remember if he was a big man, but I remember him as very nice when I bought a blade from him at a show some years back. If that's who you're looking for, the KNIVES 2002 Makers' Directory lists him at P.O. Box 167, Jamul, CA 91935, Ph: 619-669-0833 Good luck!
:D

It sure sounds possible Jamul is east county. And I could be dead wrong about the marking the one thing I am sure of is he traded a couple knives and a rightous leather jacket for a couple tattoos. One was his logo on his arm.I will give him a call.I carried this knife and wore the jacket for years in fact I wore the jacket almost to threads. It saved me in a bad wreck and a couple of other incidents. The leather on the back piece was made alot thicker than any jacket I had ever seen. I was in a bar and a scuffle broke out and I felt a sharp stick in my kidney area when I got out side I could feel something still poking me and felt my back and it was wet.To my amazement it was blood as I pulled the jacket off I could see a small boot knife stuck in the leather backpiece and only about a 1/4" sticking through.Thankfully it was a cheapy knife and the jacket's leather was so thick or it would have been much worse. The knife he made fit on my belt and the blade portion of the sheath would ride perfectly inside of my back pocket and concealed perfectly with just a tshirt.I have gotten alot of hard use out of both and I am curious as to what this makers knives have evolved into today and if he might possibly have a lead on another jacket. Thanks for the heads up and have a happy Holiday and wishing a great New Year.............RB
