Has anyone put a Mountaineer 1 in a Shadow III pancake sheath? Does it hold the knife securely? Thought it would be fun to change up the carry of my favorite One Piece Knife.

I do like the standard sheath for the OPKs but I usually use some kydex over the leather these days.

The pancake sheath does carry nicer than the standard Mtnr 1 sheath though so that could make for a nice swap.

Haze,

So have you put your Mountaineer 1 in the pancake sheath? How's the fit?

I didn't actually try it, I only had the Shadow3 for a month or two before it was traded towards a Mtnr2 :)

I think it would work pretty well though as they are rather similar knives.

I'll shoot an email to CRKs and see what they think on the fit.

Here's their reply:

"The Mountaineer I will fit in the Shadow III pancake sheath but not as well as we like. The single cross guard and clip point of the Mountaineer I really aren’t suited for the pancake sheath. We don’t offer it as an option because we are worried the Mountaineer I would not stay secure in that sheath. That being said, we have the pancake sheath in stock. The price is $50 plus $2 shipping (in CONUS). You can always purchase the sheath and see if it fits to your liking. If so, keep it. If not send it back for a refund (assuming the sheath hasn’t been used). The only amount that would be non-refundable is the shipping cost."

That sounds like their saying it will work fine just don't do any gymnastics on the trail :p:thumbup:

The pancake sheaths ride pretty high as well so thats usually an other good thing for retention.
