I love this knife!!! Last weekend, I took my M1 backpacking for the first time and used it for food prep, fatwood shavings, and a ton of whittling. Its small handle wasn't a problem at all. My hand never got fatigued.

When I got home, I ordered a second buttcap. In one cap, I installed a 1/2" brass Marbles white face compass. The second cap will be used for when I only want to carry fire starting supplies in the handle. The empty cap holds three Tinder-Quik tabs perfectly, thus saving room in the handle for a small firesteel, striker, and matches. It's also nice to not have to worry about a compass getting bumped around all the time. The lack of a compass makes the knife seem a little more rugged.

Has anyone else bought a second buttcap? :D

I was not aware that spare caps were available. If you do not mind me asking what did the extra cap run you?

Replacement butt caps:

For Skinner, 7.5" and 5.5" models---$13.00
For 4" models----------------------$10.50

I have the Mountaineer II, a little bigger, but a great bushcraft knife. I might get an Aviator later on. the smaller fixed blades are all great knives!

Actually, the prices have increased, but they haven't updated the website.

All buttcaps are now $15 with lanyard plus $2.00 shipping.
