Mountaineer I or Shadow IV ?

I know I am comparing apples with oranges since the M-I is 1/2 the weight of the S-IV.

But is there any distinct advantage to have the Shadow IV in an earthquake emergency situation e.g. the longer blade length, thicker blade width, and heavier ?

I am thinking :
survival/opening canned food/simple chores possible similar to a camping situation/or maybe hack open some jammed doors.

Thanks for all your help, guys.
I am a city-gal and not used to the great outdoors kind of sceanrio, so I am totally clueless in this selection process.

the M-I is the smaller 4" blade with the clip point or bowie style and the S-IV is the the 5.5" blade with spear point. I own a S-IV with a single guard and pouch sheath that is my all around do anything field knife. I prefer the spear point because it is stronger for puncturing canned foods and digging...the M-I is also a great blade shape, but I prefer the spear point. If your looking for hacking jammed doors, go find an ax...not that the knife can't take it, but you'll get really tired.

anyway, I also prefer the larger knife due to it feeling better in my hand, the weight is negligible....I generally don't even secure it to my belt, but my pack. I have an aviator which is nice, but a little to small for me to use all the time...great for SHF, but to small for me to use comfortably.

I agree with Chairman Moe.
I have the Shadow IV with the single guard and had a Kydex sheath made to secure it to my pack or my LBV.
I've taken it to Iraq, Kuwait, Korea and a few other places I'd rather not mention and it has always served me well.
The Spear point and extra heft on the blade are perfect for me, but then I have fairly large hands.
Either way you can't go wrong with an OPK from CRK.
Good luck.
