Mountaineer II or Shadow IV for military knife?

I am looking at getting either a Mountaineer II or Shadow IV as well as a Survival Sheath to mount it on my MOLLE gear. This will be my first Chris Reeve knife, but if the reputation is at all deserved, not my last. I have decided to go with a 5.5 inch blade because the longer knife will be a bit large to mount on my body armor and I think it might be awkward to draw. I really like the look and reported toughness of the Shadow-type spear tip, but I think the Mountaineer might be more utilitarian. Also in favor of the Mountaineer is that I prefer the leather belt sheath that comes with it for civilian uses. Last, I am tempted to get a 9" Shadow in the future as a heavy utility knife, and I like the idea of having knives with two different blade types.

I guess the question really ought to be, is there any reason not to go for the Mountaineer over the Shadow? Keep in mind, this is serving as a military utility knife, not really a fighting knife, although it will be front and center if my M4, M203, and M9 fail me after my entire platoon has expended all ammo on their crew-served weapons.

Anyone?

I personally would take the Shadow IV , before the mountianeer. Only because of the hand guard issue. If I was going hunting and skinning then the Mountianeer would be my choice.(easier to choke up on the blade for detailing) But for your daily usage in the sand box I would reach for the Shadow IV.
Also, why not a 5.5" Green Beret knife? very similar to the Shadow IV just a tad bit wider blade and different steel . And the steel might be better sooted for your daily use.(more stain resistance) Plus the sheath is already geared to the Molle System.
Only my .02.

I wish you well and Godspeed in your return home! Which ever knife you choice, may it aid you in keeping you safe!

Roger. Now I just need to find a good place to order one. From the look of it, CRK regulates dealer prices pretty hard, so it may just be a matter of finding the place where I can buy everything I want at once.

Thanks for the input, and more opinions are always welcome.
