Happy Hallows' Eve!
Recently, I finished a design that our fellow forumite Jay (bloody_pawprint) and I collaborated on.
The process went somewhat along the lines of me drawing up a Nesmuk based on its intended purposes, and then a back and forth correspondance between Jay and myself editing the design based on his extensive experience with using nesmuk styled knives in the woods. It was a pleasure working with him. Here is what we came up with:
- The blade was cut from CPM20CV stock that was 5/32 thick, full flat ground insanely thin to be as slicey as possible, with a blade length of 4.75"
- The spine had an exaggerated scraper that can serve as a spoon, as well as scraping areas that might be hard to get to with a more subtle hump
- Fine thumb serrations/jimping on the spine for better purchase when getting at it as well as plenty of handle space for the same reason
- Thumb bevels on both sides for purchase when doing a fillet type cut and scraping,
- and lastly a hidden lanyard hole with a braided leather dangler
The handle was sculpted from some beautifully colored, irridescent cocobolo. Unfortunately my images dont capture the deep purple and grey tones that shimmer to life when you tilt the knife back and forth
We are both very pleased with how this turned out, and I expect to be making some carbon steel replicas if it is received well.
Please offer any and all comments and criticisms.
Sincerely,
Spencer
