I was wandering through Gander Mountain the other day, and came across a Mountainsmith Maverick pack sitting on a clearance rack, so I bought it, for about $50. (came with trekking poles as well) Anyone have experience with this brand? Good pack?

Most poles I've seen are over $50- sounds like you got a pack for free! Looking forward to hearing about it.

I got some mountainsmith fanny packs years ago, 1994? Still have them. Really well made. When I got them from REI they had a good rep. My fanny packs cost about $60 each. Sounds like you got a deal.

Mountainsmith makes really good nylon gear. I doubt you'll be disappointed. I've had several friends that use Mountainsmith stuff and it compares favorably to Lowe Alpine. Most of my firsthand use has been Arc'Teryx and Mountain Hardwear - Mountainsmith is similiar.

You got an excellent deal!

There are several threads on these packs.. You'll find thay aren't the same packs as they used to be as the original owner of MS sold it and started Kifaru 'cause the REI crowd was "demanding" cosmetic changes for marketing purposes...
They are stil reasonably good packs, mind you, but the ones pre-sale of the company were much better... I own three of their lumbar packs, two pre-sale and one post and they are all great bags. And I own two versions of one of their packs - one pre-sale and one post, and again, they are both great packs.. But I'm still partial to the pre-sale stuff! :D
