I was digging through my bits and bone box and found a section of spike elk antler that I was using for antler pommels on leather stacked handles. It reminded me of a bowie I noticed while browsing my books so what the hell lets go for it while I'm inspired. Though not intended to be a reproduction the original is from Kentucky circa 1790-1815.

Here is a pic of the original Inspiration

That is a very appealing knife. I like the wide blade and offset handle, in particular.
The rest works for me as well.
:)

Thanks all for the kind comments, I think I like building period peices the most, it looks like they have a history born right into them.

I like period pieces as well. Especially when makers take originals and adjust the design slightly incorporating their styles and tecniques. This and Josh Smith's rendition of a Searles Bowie for the ABS San Antonio Show are good examples of this.

Very nice! It looks like you put a lot of thought into the materials and construction. I would call it a success. Great job. Lin
