  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Mounting bracket

We used to torch and ream to size, but usually not 2" thick.

If you want to try, make a circle burner for your torch, and cut the hole a bit undersized and ream to size.
preheating the plate will be necessary so you get a good pierce, or you could drill a small pilot hole and start the cut from that. I would still preheat the plate though.
Knock the torch scale off and remove the scale in the hole with a burr grinder, then ream. The scale is hard and it is cheaper to use a burr grinder for scale removal than a ream.

George, I'm always seeing big end mills, face mills, and counter bores on Ebay .

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!
I currently don't have a web site but am working on one.
Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms!!!

George,I don't know how precision you need but you might try a bi-metal hole saw with lots of lubricant.I have done this in 1" thick steel. If you need more precise try a smaller hole saw and a flycutter.Dave

George, if you cen drag it up to Worcester on Monday or Tuesday, I may be able to toss it on a Bridgeport and do it. I'll check with someone later today and see if I can get permission.

Hello George,

If it is small enough to practically ship...then send it to me and I'll gladly take care of it. ...By the way, how precise is "precision"? Diameter and location?

+/-.0005, .001, .005 .010"?

Sincerely,
Rob Frink
