Mounting Tips For Fixed Angle Systems

Hey everyone, so I've been going through the forum and thanks to numerous posts I've made some improvements with my sharpening. However, one thing I've realized is a constant challenge is mounting the knife in a way that once it's mounted it wont have a significant amount of up and down play in the clamp. It's not a problem with all knives however, when it is a problem, it's enough to change the angle that the stone is making contact with the bevel.
I have a Hapstone RS system however I have noticed that there are quite a number of systems that use a similar style of clamp with the exception of the KME, Work Sharp, Edge Pro, and others. Does anybody have any tips on how you can prevent the up and down movement or mitigate it? Are there adapters of any sort for specific grinds? Does a specific tape help? Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Use one clamp on the flat tang area of most knives (just in front of the handle), and the other clamp about an inch or so back from the tip.

Thank you, i tried that and it helped a good bit. Also moved the knife further inward on the clamp as much as I could without getting any contact between the clamp and stone.
