Mounting Wire AND Spring clips?

I don't think this has been "formally" asked yet:

Wouldn't it be relatively easy to design a system of clip mounting that uses wire AND flat clips? Two slots on the side-bottoms of the rectangular cutout should be able to accomplish this. Barrel bolts and nuts appear to be the same design. Would this be possible on at least some models with enough handle thickness to ensure strength and longevity of the clip mount?

Each model could come with either setup, with "clip option packs" for sale with one each wire and flat clip and a set of barrel bolts. That should keep the SKUs reasonable.

Also, on the "tiny-screw mounted" clips, couldn't a pattern take either a wire or flat clip? Seems like this might be even easier. This "option pack" would include one each wire and flat clip, plus three tiny screws.

Lots of us knifeknuts are always needing extra clips and screws anyway. Okay, at least WANTING them! :)

What other problems would there be? Would it make sense for a significant enough number of ELUs? If there were enough interest, would it be cost-effective from the manufacturer's POV?

That would take care of everyone, for myself a wire clip would most likely keep me from buying. The one on the Native 3 is the best I have tried so far but I still liked the standard clip better.

Good idea, Safety Guy. It wouldn't be very expensive, I think.
The classic / standard / flat clip looks better in my opinion than a wire clip, but others like the wire clip more. It would be a good option.

Flat out excellent idea. It would be great if we could use bent wire clips to get deep carry on models that don't come stock that way. It would / could take just few different sizes for Spyderco to do this.

It seems to me the major obstacles would be the thickness of the material in the knife scales/FRN handle. I don't know how the FRN molds are done and if they can be easily modified, but all that would be needed are the wire clip slots at the bottom of the rectanglar clip depression. There would have to be enough material, though, especially for longevity. Twisting forces and anything that pulled outwards on the clip would tax the system. Remember the '98 clip depressions on the FRN models? We don't want clip interchangability only to have clips getting ripped out of the handles.

At the very least this system should be able to be encorporated on new models and eventually a sizable number of Spydies could take either style clip, solving most of the clip preference problems.

Also let me add that I believe there are at least two different "heights" of barrel bolts for differences in thickness of handles. Again, these sizes could be added to the "clip package." I've also thought about putting clips on BOTH sides of a knife just to see how it works. Haven't tried it yet, but a long bolt through a thin knife like the Delica should work. Question is, how would it feel to the hand?

Anyway, I hope someone who would know the answers to this inquiry will chime in soon! :)

It could be there are some good reasons why it wouldn't work or would be impractical or too expensive.
