Mouse hawk with hammer poll?

I've been looking at the Gransfors Mini Hatchet again. I owned one in the past, and there were some things about it that just didn't appeal to me, but I love the idea of a small chopping instrument. Anyone have any experience with a small, 10-12 ounce tomahawk head, with a hammer poll. I really prefer a straight handle, but without a trailing mass (the hammer head) I don't' find it especially usable. Something like the Cold Steel Trail Hawk, scaled down by about 20% would be ideal. I like the smooth transitions through the eye into the relatively long hammer compared to some hammer poll hawks.

Thanks.

Look for a Vector001 BUG Hawk - it's basically a Trail Hawk head on a composite shaft but the Trail Hawk head is machined down a little to make it lighter, quicker, and meaner.

Check out some of H&B's "child-size" models. They're scaled down versions of the regular hawks.

He doesn't have any, and no word on if or when he will be able to get more made. They are also still a little too large for this. They are outstanding none the less.

That's a shame...awesome hawks.

Less traditional options though I don't know if they quite fit your needs or budget but RMJ makes a Jenny Wren with a hammer poll (although I think it's still pretty thin), Busse has a made a Kill Devil with a hammer poll (again - still pretty thin for a "hammer") and there are the CRKT Chogan and Kangee (I forget which one is the spike/hammer). If none of those quite fit the bill probably worth asking a custom maker if they can do something for you.

what about the shrew hawk, maybe the head was that light, nice hawk. I think it has a hammer pole.

Nothing full tang will be able to make weight. Even the tiny Jenny Wren weighs in at 18 ounces, though the sits says parenthetically 1.5 pounds, which is 24 ounces... Even so, it's on my list, just not for this project ;)

The shrew hawk is 16 ounces according to the web site

I have one that a purchased thru Mark McCoun and re-handled.

I really like the GB too and I also wanted a hawk version. For me I wanted the detachable head with a bigger handle then on the GB. What I ended up doing was cutting the hammer poll off the trail hawk. The balance improved, the weight was reduced to under 15 oz(all in with 12" haft and edge guard), and there's still a half inch of steel to use for pounding in tent stakes and such. It won't get you the smooth transition from cheek to eye but the blade is so long I haven't ever needed a thinner transition. I split wood from the side and nothing over say 4" in diameter to give you a reference.

Well, I personally really like the length of the poll. And by "smooth", I meant in appearance. As it is, the Trail Hawk is just right for what I want, it's just too big.

Again, thanks for all the help :)
