Getting ready to try my hand at sharpening a convex edge. How are you attaching the sandpaper to the mouse pad?

I use a 2x4 approx. 18". Nail/staple the pad to the 2x4. Then lay the sand paper over the mousepad. You can use small nails or thumb tacks for the sand paper if desired. That's just one way.

That's a deliciously expensive solution. Might I suggest Table Syrupas a more cost effective alternative?

Yep. Easiest way. And if the mouse pad gives too muh, which can cause the sand paper to roll the edge, try something like news paper or phone book.

Do you heat up the maple sryup before you pour it on the sandpaper or just pour it straight out of the bottle?

Just right out of the bottle. Make sure to use the Canadian stuff though.
