The day started out looking grim, but just a few hours later the sun came out and greeted us, as did Captain America.

Harriman State Park in New York was the scene of this weekend’s backpacking trip. There was a marathon going on, but once we got off the beaten path we were away from the crowd…so we thought. The views along Seven Lakes Drive were beautiful, and the woods—no different!

And then the Captain…

The Mouse Trap

In the seat was this guy…just waiting for someone to sit down.

Camp

My camp

Fire

War Paint

Making some camp craft

Jay and his orang fixation…

Me and my orang fixation…

Chow time…this was first dinner…

Making rice in the oven bag

Making some bacon tongs…

I made…poor man’s bacon & cheese baked potato

The group…

Second dinner consisted of my ham and three spice cheese sandwich…rock panini style.

The morning brought rain and lots of moisture in the air…

Trail out…

Lots of video game talk on the hike out…

Jay likes orange so much, we had to eat here!

See You Next Time…

good stuff, rb! here are my pics...this kid on the right is a real daredevil...for sure i thought he was going to fall off a cliff or something at some point, he just climbed every log and cliff near camp.

jolly testing out his new fronky-style bugnet...i liked it, really tight seal around the hammock.

the tiny stream was flowing this time so no need for the swamp water for me.

evernew appalachian set is an alcohol stove but it can be used as a wood stove in case you run out of fuel...an emberlit is still way more efficient though.

big sky food cozy with an oven bag worked really well with the instant rice.

after the girl scout cookies and oreos, the 3rd dessert...the kephart is in a tie with the mora 510 as my favorite knife nowadays.

rain started around 1 am and continued on until i woke up...heating up water for coffee while in the hammock is a win!
two rainy overnighters in a row - what a perfect week for me.

i highly doubt the real reuben would've tasted as good as this - pastrami on rye with sauerkraut and swiss cheese.

I've got to say it was real nice being out with BearTheDog and JV3, it was nice to show up at camp and not have to do ANYTHING except throw up the hammocks and eat :D Thanks for a great trip guys!!

Here's some of my pics, my youngest and I got off to a late start so we hiked in later, as you can see from JV3's first pic they left us a little directional arrow for our off trail excursion :D

Off we go

Looks like a good time.. cheers!

Hi! Maybe I misunderstood... but you really mean you took a picture of a guy walking in the woods carrying a Captain America shield during your hike ?:D. Is that common in that area, or :D? I had some "bad" experiences with "crazy" shepherds in the mountains a couple of times, but this...
