Mousepad and sandpaper - to glue or not to glue?

I would like to use this method for convex sharpening, but I am unclear whether or not it is necessary or recommended to glue the sandpaper to the mousepad to keep it in place.

Thanks for any ideas. :)

You don't need to glue it, just lay it on the mousepad, and clip it if it moves around. You'll usually use several different grits, plus sandpaper wears out, so you don't want it permanently attached.

I use some kind of spray glue in an aeresol can. It holds it on a bit, but easily peels off.

I have used the mousepad to back the sandpaper, without glue, and it worked well.

But now I use a piece of leather instead of a mousepad, and it works MUCH better.

Again, I just fold the sandpaper around the old leather belt, and have at it!:D
