Some years back I had an opportunity to buy the original Fist Blood Lile knife as used by sly in the movie and passed on it,after part II came out its worth skyrocketed.Question is I heard once there was a website that sold movie knives as used by the actors,is this true, and if so where?Or just out of curiousness where do all these neat knives end up?

I'm moving this to prove my omnipotency (and so's it gets a better response)

The question I have, is what "Movie Knives" would you want to own?

It would be great to see a movie that showed the positive aspect of knife use. I guess that one Anthony Hopkins' movie one did.

At least the great & powerful VG moved you out of the community forum, saving you from an onslaught of sniglets.

I imagine you are not talking about the Anthony Hopkins movie "Hannibal" where he guts the guy with a Civilian?

Sorry, guys didnt really know where to post.Knives such as the ones used in predator and the other real stallone knives, just curious as to where they go.

No, I was talking about "The Edge" were he kills the bear with the pole and has to survive the wilderness with a Baldwyn brother.

Most movie knives aren't real working knives, although the studios do a great job of making them appear otherwise.

Most either go back to the prop dept. for re-use, or are acquired by the actors or production staff as souvenirs.

The movie knife that I would love to get my hands on is the Iron Mistress Bowie from the movie of the same name, but i understand that it is still in the ownership of the studio that made the film, along with several prop and stunt versions with sliding blades or aluminum blades. I also seem to remember someone, parhaps Jerry Fisk, saying that he had gotten a chance to handle it once and that it was a pig as far as handling went. That blew away a childhood fantasy.

The knife I always wanted to see again was that bone handled bowie used as a prop in the old Daniel Boone television series. I saw it used as a prop in several episodes when I was a kid.

I belive i saw this movie,
he had a custom(?) lockback with bolsters and stag, afaik.
It was a birthday present from his wife, a model which had something with the photographer, (Mr. Baldwin).
Later after a planecrash the knife came into work.
You mean this film? I saw no Civilian there.

If anyone has info about the persian fighter used by "Lara Croft" in "Tomb Raider" i would be happy to hear about.

:)

Big bore, we were referring to two seperate movies, both starring Anthony Hopkins. The movie "Hannibal" has Hopkins weilding what I thought was a Civvie (turns out to be a stainless plainedge harby, I have been told) to gut people. MTF3 was talking about the movie "The Edge"

Yes one2gofst
i mixed up your post with MTF3`s !
;)

I have seen both films and till now were not sure that it was Anthony Hopkins in both.

Seems a very good actor ( + maybe i was not looking so exactly at him, always trying to recognize the blades :( ).

Most movie knives are, in truth, real working knives. And most are not owned by the studio. In days long gone by studios had thier own props dept. Most times today studios prefer to rent "prop trailers" these are privately owned collections of props (everything from the mundane to the outlandish). You will however find that there are ALOT of customs in movies. I did some custom work for Aliens IV. All but one of the knives used in the movie were real. The only fake was the SF that Weaver drives through her hand. Anymore it is rare that a knife prop is made by the effects crew or the model shop. Studios are prefering to farm out more and more of that kind of stuff these days.

Also you might find it funny that many knives seen on camera belong to the crew and are thrown in when the prop wagon does not have what the director is looking for.

Lots of the knives spotted are real working knives, production or custom.

I've spotted bunches of Spyderco's in movies/tv shows (i.e., Police, Endura, Delica, Mariner, Harpy, Jess Horn lwt., etc.), some Benchmade's (3500, Spike, Leopard Cub, etc.), Buck (110, 112), Cold Steel (Tanto, Voyager), Victorinox SAK's, Kershaw (Liner Action), Gerber (E-Z Out, Mark II), Ka-Bar USMC, Microtech (Halo and Mini-Socom), and Leatherman (Supertool, Wave).
