Hi everyone this is my first post here. I am sorry if this is not the right spot for this post. I wasn't sure were to post it.
We have all seen the in the movies how the bad guy would have an ejecting knife or pistol up his sleeve.
Is that for real or just movie magic? I was wondering how a system like that would work for say a dagger.
Just seen it in a movie and had me wondering. Any thoughts? Thank you. John

Welcome to the forums!

It's absolutely possible, and I've seen one or two in person. It works basically like a big OTF auto. They are however, a real pain to build from what I understand, flat out dangerous, and illegal in many places.

Oh, they are very real. The accuracy may be movie magic, but they do exist. Any distance of more than 10 feet and the accuracy would be non-existance. Basically, they're like spring loaded dart guns, and are in the catagory of firearms by most states and governments. Are you looking to own one?

BTW, what movie are you thinking of? I've seen them in both switchblade and dagger forms.

Are you talking about a "Gambler's Draw"?

Where a small gun like a derringer or a knife is hidden up the sleeve and when a small switch is activated the gun/knife slides out and rests in the palm of the hand.
They would not actually shoot out a knife!

They are real and were common among riverboat gamblers and old west gamblers.

I will see if I can find some pics of the most common devises used

Real and easy to make. Just dangerous. You need a knife, and some sort of guide, and a "propellent" source. Ultimately they're useless compared to a gun.

Thanks for all the replies. That's what I am talking about. No not looking to own one at all. Just wondered if that would really work or not. Does seem to be a dangerous tool.
The pistol one seems to be more widely used in the movies. If you want to post pictures of them that would be cool. Thanks again for the replies. John

I looked at that video. Not bad. I didn't think it was possable. I also watched Desperado last night. He had 2 pistol hooked up to them. But when he needed to reload it was like they weren't attached to anything. I guess they forgot the pistols were hooked to that system. Thank sagain. John

Here are a few pics I found

As you were talking about the guns in Desperado, The might have been held on by a magnet or other device were they can be pulled off!!

easily possible, simple mechanism, guaranteed to get your ass in jail in most states, with the added bonus if you use a dagger of impaling your hand on the way out. Additionally the limited mobility would be a detriment in a real knife fight

Kingdom thanks for the link. Strange a kid can make that. I liked the set up in Hell boy that the nazi with the mask on had. Big blades that came out one on each hand. Seems like it would be attached to the end of the knife so you could hold the handle normal. John

Google wrist gun or sleeve gun. Its literally the same thing as the knife, its just what is being pushed out of the sleeve.

I've looked at some more vids on Youtube
To me it seems that the weak point is the trigger.
To me a something is not concealed when it requires you to wear a strange loop or ring-with-cable around a finger.

James Bond had a feature shooting darts from his wrist in the movie where he went to space.
It was operated by moving his hand upwards and how that affects the muscles on the fore arm.
If something like that could be made in a reliabe way it would be a real concealed weapon. (to me)
