Roland Dantes is back, this time playing Ben, a farm boy seeking to improve his Arnis training. This time he's up against the Spanish/Portuguese governor who wants his family's land. Ben is forced to watch his parents die at the hands of the evil governor and his 2 sons, one of which is played by a young Dean Stockwell.

After escaping a slave ship, Ben lands on an island inhabited by Lei played by Nancy Kwan and a few other natives as well as a blind old wise man. Well actually, a blind Franciscan monk trained in Arnis and Jujutsu, the same monk who Ben is searching for and who will train him in fighting with the six sense.

Add to the mix, Mori, a samurai brought over to teach the Governor and his sons how to use a katana.

But you want fights right?
Double sticks vs Saber galore
Double sticks vs Katana
Double sticks vs Nunchaku
A fencing saber vs katana 'challenge'
Add a few mult opponents with weapons, sword throwing, fighting on a beach.

A darker, longer ride than Sticks of Death, we see not one but two testicle defangings ala John Bobbitt. And not one but two testicle attacks with the stick as well as a throw where the stick is levered under the groin. There's also implied killing of a goat that will make PETA folk shudder as well as the search for the "Iron Reed", a stick so strong it grows on the side of an active volcano in lava soaked ground.

I could mention the oddity of a Spaniard wearing both a katana and a saber, a Muslim Lantaka (short cannon) on a Spanish ship, and the Polynesian hula dancers. I also wondered why the island people had staffs but no spears.

The choreography was predictable with some odd placed sound affects after awhile but the katana vs double stick scenes were entertaining as well as the katana vs saber "challenge". At the end of the flick, there's another movie mentioned in the works called "Sultan Ben". I figure this is another name for "Sticks of Death".

I have one question:

Where in the world are you finding these videos? Everytime I do a search, either nothing comes up or they are "not available".

Yup!
Where do I find'em?

Well, it sounds like the only thing missing is the horrible dubbing work that the Hong Kong action/kung-fu flicks are notorious for

It sounds like "Stickfighter..." and "Sticks of Death" are both lousy movies, so my question is ... are there any decent FMA/action movies out there?

Dave.

I recently picked up that movie at a used book store, because you suggested it a while back, and it is a great movie, even though you could see the sticks flex like they were rubber

Well, I heard about these movies a few years ago. I was able to get mine through ebay. I got lucky with Sticks of Death because that usually brings bidding wars.

Any decent core FMA flicks? I don't know of any. Kamagong is my fave perhaps if the Angel Cabales story went out on tape. There was talk of it done but I'm not sure if it came to fruition.

Anyhow, if you really want the fix, I'm selling my copy of Stickfighter.
