Starring Roland Dantes, pic available in Edgar Sulite's 'Secrets of Arnis, Escrima, Kali'. Dantes plays Johnny Guerrero, a former punk turned cop. A warrior named Guerrero, what're the odds?
Johnny is a troubled kid, who's almost dies after a driveby shooting. After being framed as a drug dealer, he goes to the jungle, living with his grandfather who improves Arnis technique. We see plenty of drills and disarms, plenty of abaniko strikes, and a small ring/target area with sticks tied with vine, simulating targets. There's even a dummy made of wood and how to use a snapping strike to drive a nail into wood.
Johnny and grandfather defeat a group of multiple attackers armed with a guns, bolos, knife, sticks, and a chainsaw. Johnny's grandfather decides to not use the bolo around his waist but a stick.
Johnny joins the police force and falls in love with the daughter of a local businessman, Don Carlos. We also see a man take out 5 multiple gun wielding opponents, with....poison darts and a slingshot!
Johnny also convinces the Manila police force to help him start an Arnis class for cops, young kids, women, and seniors. As a gift, Johnny's grandfather gives him an 'iron forged Arnis' aka...a collapsing baton. We see demos of stick vs stick, stick vs bolo, stick and dagger, short stick vs knife.
Johnny's luck continues when he and Don Carlos' daughter face an assassination attempt. Could you survive a driveby shooting by a man with an M-16 in a helicopter and while just wearing a pair of shorts? The attack also brings Johnny closer to his lady love.
We later meet American INTERPOL Agent Frank Santini, who knows 'a little Arnis' (a little less than a grandmaster) and happens to be partnered with Johnny because he knows a little Arnis. Frank beats three baddies armed with guns, knives, and such.
Johnny and Frank are trying to bust an international drug dealers but find enough time to workout and enter a full contact Arnis tournament. We're treated to see Jose Mena go up against Ciriaco Canete and a few demo's befor Johnny fights in the championship with Frank as a cornerman.
Not to be stopped, the bad guys kidnap Johnny's sister and force him to drive his VW Bug into a secluded part of town. After another driveby attempt (you'd think they'd learn), Johnny defeats them using not a gun but a trash can and his collapsing baton.
The bad guys are still busy, they blackmail Don Carlos after kidnapping his wife. Johnny goes after the bad guys complete with collapsing baton with some help with his friends.
Okay, this tape, unlike Kamagong, it is in English and filmed in 1979. It also has the most ambushes I've ever seen in a movie. Although there's some slight nudity in the beginning, it's basically a family movie. The fight scenes are a little cheesy, the slow motion sequences are not actually slow. All main characters where bright colors, the henchmen where denim.
For you tactical folks and 1911A Colt freaks, you won't see cover and concealment but two LEOs chasing down a suspect while holding their 1911 in Condition One.
This is a pretty entertaining film, not as serious as Exposure and actually longer than Kamagong.
